Hey all

Going to a wedding this Saturday... (yes, I will miss Diaz/Conor 2 :( )

A bit on the fence about my choice of wedding gift, would love to hear some feedback

Invited by the groom, we went to college together, used to carpool together... used to smoke up in the forest together before class every day, have done shrooms with him and several bonfires etc, and we chat conspiracy info online semi-regularly (he is an expert on Canadian economics). - I have met the girl he will marry only once I think... she is a dancer (burlesque among other styles) and seems a pretty upbeat fun creative chick but that's about all I know about her. All in all, we are friends and I like him plenty but we are not super super close or anything

They do not have a 'gift-registry' as some other weddings do (which is good, I think those things are weird, lol)

Here is what I am thinking of giving:

A package containing:

- 'The Prophet' by Kahlil Gibran'
- possibly a copy of the 'Tao Te Ching' to go with it
- 2 hand-made mugs by Mrs Masato (she is a potter)
- some candles
- small jar of high quality cannabis


Is that weird? Is it wrong to give books, especially of a philosophical/spiritual nature? Is it way out of line to give weed? I was also thinking of tossing in a copy of my conspiracy book but but maybe this is also weird/vain/inappropriate

I think this would be a great gift but admittedly am completely inexperienced in wedding-gift etiquette.

I'm spending more than that just to meet their 'formal' dress code, lol (I have zero formal clothes... went to try some on yesterday, they suck. Ties, tucking your shirt in, and those stupid shoes, lol -I don't know how/why people wear that shit.)

But that's a whole 'nother thread :D

My sister-in-law says I'm totally crazy to give weed, she says its totally inappropriate and would be embarrassed etc (and she loves weed)

Other hesitant responses too

I don't get this, I think its an awesome gift

hence the thread :D

thanks for responses. 'Dick in a box' is winning so far for alternative suggestions

Weed, no. First two books and hand made pottery, yes. If you are having to spend $ elsewhere just to even attend, your presence is gift enough, rest is icing.

If I follow your advice, that's more weed for me, (yay!) - its been sitting in the freezer for a week now waiting

Also got an extra book then... I'll send it to Diet Butcher if he doesn't already have a copy

Pottery mugs - yes
Candles - yes
Weed - yes
Add in 2 bubble bottles (liquid with little handle hoop thingies kids use).
With instructions to pour alcohol, light candles, smoke weed and blow bubbles in candle light.

No, not blow bubbles the chimp :)

Fuck all of you, now I'm more indecisive than before, lol

How different is it to give weed than to give a nice bottle of wine? - Is it really so shocking/inappropriate?

Funny how I'm getting such polarized responses, and not just here at the MMAC. People either seem to think its great or they are totally turned off by the idea and tell me not to.
