Anyone watching this? Love it so far. It's streaming on Amazon. Here is a quick description:

The Man in the High Castle is an American dystopian alternate history television series produced by Amazon Studios. The series is based on the 1962 novel of the same name by American science fiction author Philip K. Dick. The story is an alternate history of the world in which the Axis powers won World War II. The United States has been partitioned into three parts: The Japanese puppet state of the Pacific States of America, which comprises the former United States west of the Rocky Mountains; a German puppet state that comprises the eastern half of the former United States; and a neutral zone that acts as a buffer between the two areas, called the Rocky Mountain States

One thing that's annoying is that in the novel, the female protagonist is a Judo expert. Some idiot suit who must be a Steven Seagal fan turned her into an Aikido expert (ugh).

Two episodes in & it's really good.

Anyone else watching this?

It's like someone put Blade Runner, Twin Peaks, and the Gestapo into a blender. So basically, happy birthday to me.

Hehe, sounds good, maybe I'm gonna watch the pilot tomorrow.

Do they use a lot of German? I hope not, they always get it wrong in (lower)-budget stuff and it annoys the hell out of me. Can't help it. :/
Even in the new James Bond the German woman had an accent, albeit she tried hard and spoke correct sentences. Sloppy shit nonetheless.

Not too much German, no. I just finished episode 5, & there's a lot more Japanese than German up to this point.

So watched the pilot, the build-up didn't get me right away, but the end was gripping enough that the second ep will follow right now. :)

Though I hope they get away from the movie-stuff a little bit. Not saying they can't be powerful, but her decision to go into the complete unknown and danger for that seems a bit weird. After all she could have just given it to the guy at the station and be done with it.

Alright, picking up steam! They are doing a lot of things right. Definitely going to continue watching.

To readers of the book: was the currency in there mark(s) as well? I suppose its one mark and seven marks as plural form. When they first used the term in the coffee-house I thought they meant some sort of food stamps due to the English meaning of the word.
Because in Germany the currency was Mark, in singular as well as in plural, just Mark. So that threw me off completely until I saw it being used in the book-shop as well. Kinda stupid of me.

And yes I'm a stickler for details like that. ;)

Okay I'm through with it. Gotta say, I liked it a lot and I really hope a second season is coming, strongly hoping.
Because it can only get more interesting.

I would give it a 8,5/10
8, because I thought the main characters were not the most interesting ones, and I would have liked them to have a little different focus. The girl I liked, the two other main dudes, only partially.
The atmosphere was great, they really did a great job of creating a world that is very different from the original and could be 'realistic'. Even though, they were too big on plastering everything with flags and propaganda stuff.
The composition as a whole always felt right though. Visually very pleasing.
The plot I liked for the most part, many things that were not easily foreseeable.
0,5, because I enjoyed how they went about with the German and other details. Now granted, the guy who spoke the most German is actually Danish, and while he tried hard, he couldn't hide his accent. But everything else, including German in the background seemed pretty much spot on. I assume that it is the same with the Japanese.
Details are important. One thing though.. nobody would ever call it "The Greater Nazi Reich" that's just weird.

That Hitler is The Man in the High Castle is an ingenious thing. To think that the whole resistance is basically working for him.. great!
Personally I would have liked to have the focus more on Nobusuke Tagomi, Inspector Kido and John Smith, while the others could have went more into the background.
Those three were very interesting and became more interesting the more screen-time they got.
The machinations, betrayals and corruption on both sides were pretty much the most interesting parts imho. Heydrich was legitimately scary.

The dude DJ Qualls played was pretty much just annoying, and the storyline around Frank Fink was the weakest I thought, but at the same time the most horrifying, given his sister and her kids.
With Juliana Crain I understood why she wanted to do it for her sister, but not why she didn't just give the movie to the first resistance-dude she met at the train-station, and then went home. What was her motivation there? That was a little stupid.
She totally jumped into the complete unknown and into high danger, all the while the easy solution that honoured her sisters wish as well was right in front of her.

And there were weaknesses in the storyline of the resistance.. some funny coincidences, interestingly short travel times, inept policing, everybody saved everybody like 10 times... just shift the focus a little and trim it a bit, and a lot of those things would not have been an issue.
I actually like that there were resets for the characters in here though, including with the end. And I totally feared that they would make a stupid annoying love-triangle out of it. Thankfully, they did not.

And interestingly, we had to make a hard decision who to root for when Rudolph Wegener came into the castle. Do we want him to succeed and kill Hitler.. Hitler! Who might be the most hated person ever. Which then would most likely lead to a nuclear bomb destroying San Fransisco and all our "heroes" with it? Or do we want Hitler to survive and keep the world as it is?
Morally a very interesting dilemma.

What the very last scene should tell us.. (Tagomi in 'real' San Fransisco), who knows.. parallel worlds? Just a dream?

But I got the feeling that this is one of those shows where you can really only can make a justifiable judgement on the first season after you have seen everything.
I definitely want to see a second at least.

Watched the 1st episode. A real good effort.

The rest you can buy on Amazon? Or do you have to get Amazon Prime?

Haven't read this thread yet because I'm just starting the show and I don't want any spoilers.

I'll comment in a couple of days after I finish watching. I'm flirting with danger just reading this much. :D
