Count Hall of Fame fighter and former UFC champion Matt Hughes among those who doesn't think UFC fighter's should form a union.

The UFC's VP of Athlete Development and Government Relations was one of the guest stars — along with current UFC fighters Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Neil Magny — at Friday's Q&A in Hamburg, Germany, for UFC Fight Night 93. When a fan asked him about a fighter's union, Hughes, as he was wont to do in throughout his fighting career, didn't mince words.

"I'm not a union fan, bottom line," he said. "I think unions started as a good thing back in the day, but they've turned into a monster. So I just don't see a need for it. Fighters have a choice to fight for any organization they want. They've got a choice of playing baseball, basketball, football, swinging a hammer, being a lawyer, doing anything they want. But they wanted to fight."

"When I started out, it wasn't for the money," he said. "I fought to compete. So I just don't see the need for a union."

I see no need for an unfortunate comb over.

You're going bald Matt, just own it.

So he thinks a company selling for billions should not share with the very few employees that bring in the money.
I am going to go back and watch BJ Penn choke him out again and again.

Although it's hard to deny Hughes is tough to like, let's please refrain from fighter bashing.

Thx

Shocked that company man, Matt Hughes, who was gifted an exec job after retirement, would suggest a union isn't necessary.

How much is Hughes paid per year for his UFC position?

What percentage of UFC fighters get paid positions after being cut or retiring? Less than 1% I believe.

Matt is out of touch. I do not believe fighters will go to him with their concerns. A union means, he won't be needed anymore.

Loyalty is not selling out, never liked the guy but what he said represents the opposite of selling out.
Loyalty because you're being paid to do the opposite of everything you claim to be for is Selling Out.

And Matt is a tool. I was kicking around the charleston, IL area when he was a wrestling coach there and he would show up at our High School parties looking to start shit. Even if he wasn't a sell out, I'd still call him that because I just dont like the guy.
