Appreciate it. You'll regret saying that tho... im not spell/grammar checking here. You're gonna be busy. :)

Did you find a gif program?

I didn't realize you were doing video clips. I've only made animations from pics on PS. Not sure if u can import a vid. Maybe if you have a new fancy version.

Hello:

I've not used PS to make GIFs, although it can and allow you to make intricate GIFs.

Not sure of the other GIF making-TMMACers, these are what I use:

1) Ulead's GIF Animator - iirc, some years ago, Adobe bought Ulead and doesn't support GIF Animator anymore

Upside: I like GIF Animator's ease of control in manipulating the various factors such as cropping, frame rates, copying frames, etc. I have not progressed to using all of the features of Ulead like animation transition effects - it is powerful in its own right.

Downside: as it's older, it doesn't seem to work on mkv videos. Works like a charm on avi/divx/xvids, the older popular format for video files.

NOTE: you may not find this program available anymore.

2) Instagiffer - The easy way to make GIFs!

Upside: I like Instagiffer because it can make gifs off of mkv/flv etc. It has filters that you can apply to the frames of your gif like making your GIF Sepia-toned, etc

Downside: In isolating the frames i want to gif, you need the start time and how many seconds you want the gif to last... Ulead is easier in this respect - put in start time, put in end time and that's it, no math involved.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is inefficient of me to use both programs to make a gif, but this is what i do for now: i use Instagiffer to grab frames off of mkv files, and then i use GIF Animator to add text, delete frames, etc ... i used to add borders and had an extra frame that was all white or some other solid color to 'flash' and indicate it was the end of the gif ... but past year or so, have not added borders nor add that white frame for a truer/traditional gif that loops forever without a 'reset' frame.

i haven't ventured to looking for new gif programs yet. Hope to see other TMMAC'ers suggestions.

HTH

Here's an example of a gif that is more vanilla and traditional... it just plays in an endless loop

Here's a gif when my gif-making was splicing up a scene into a few gifs... note the border and reset frame

I used that briefly, I forgot why i didn't like it and went looking and found instagiffer.

If i still have the program, will check it out again to see why i passed on using it.

nice. I've never used instagiffer. It would be nice to get your opinion on which one you think is better if you've used them both.

Without double-checking on Free Video to GIF Converter, I can tell you i think Instagiffer is better. Don't recall the reason why I stopped using FVtGC and started using Instagiffer instead. But I have been using Instagiffer definitely over a year already. If I still have FVtGC installed, i'll try it again and post my thoughts.

@Lars a great free program I started with was GIMP. Lots of YouTube tutorials as well and I've done mist my gif manipulations with it. I now have PS so its a bit of a learning curve but I like. it.

GIMP is the equivalent of PS, i've used GIMP a little, but having used PS more, I had a bit of a learning curve for GIMP (lol ... reverse of BirdWatcher)

IIRC GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program and GNU means GNU's Not Unix.

FYI, i was out last night, didn't get a chance to check to see if i still had Free Video to GIF Converter on my computer. For the life of me, not sure why I didn't like it and once i used instagiffer, i liked it a lot better.

I also use instagiffer to extract gifs from videos, then I edit individual frames using Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X (any version up to 6) and then animate in jasc animation shop 3. I'm too used to PSP to start learning PS, and I've hated all animation software I've used, so I end up coming back to that ancient copy of AS3
