LAS VEGAS – If Georges St-Pierre doesn’t stay in the middleweight division to unify his championship, UFC President Dana White will not be happy – and that’s putting it mildly.

In fact, the mere mention of St-Pierre (26-2 MMA, 20-2 UFC) potentially going back on his word brings White’s blood to a simmer.

“I don’t want to hear that,” White said during a media luncheon Tuesday at UFC headquarters. “That’s not what I want to hear. I want to hear he’s going to defend his 185-pound title. That’s the agreement we made. That’s the deal we made when we made the deal (for him to come back).”

“There’s no good options. To sit there and try to hand-pick people of where you want to go and everything else, you can’t in this f*cking sport. They’re all nasty. You’re a fighter. Get in there and f*cking see who you can beat."

dana/ufc is running low on superstars.. dana should stfu and let gsp fight whoever he wants.. anderson, lesnar and bones.. peds, connor is in hiding, ronda is gone, cain is forever injured .. who else does the ufc have that is a legit pvp draw? nick and nate?? they are wise to the game and only take big fights now.. if ever.

Gsp should rape conor into the mat for 5 rounds and strangle him then retire

I'll just beat this pulverized horse yet AGAIN...a real rankings system and an automatic method of determining matchups based on those rankings would eliminate 98% of these stupid dilemmas. This playing-it-by-ear bullshit has worn so goddamn thin at this point. An automated system would determine EXACTLY the consequences for every result, including non-activity and refusals to defend a belt. But I can see why Dana and WME wouldn't want such a thing. An algorithm, being close to politically neutral, would eliminate hypocrisy by preventing the very possibility of a shit-list.

He just fought a bigger man, he ain't scared. You must be talking about Mighty Mouse.
No one is scared of bisping.... people can paint it saying “oh he just fought the middle weight champion” but at the end of the day he fought only bisping, who is nowhere near the toughest fight at MW

What do you call someone who doesn’t keep their end of the bargain up?

In this case, either a liar or scared

I think a number of fighters are on the verge. Rose, Ngannou, Gaethje, and Darren Till for instance. They're all a couple of fights away from turning the corner into PPV draws. Maybe not mega-stars, but good solid draws.

A lot can happen in 2018. A lot can also NOT happen, but stars come and go, and not everybody can be Conor. My bet is he will fight in the next 12 months, and if we add GSP in the mix, I think the year will turn out to be a good one. Of course injuries, pullouts, contract disputes and shit-lists can always fuck up a good thing. Hopefully we get a minimum of that and get to see some awesome matchups.

Why are they making a "bargain" to begin with? How about a fucking contract? And if he didn't want to sign a contract, then that's on Dana.

Yeah, I'm aware he's obligated to fight Whittaker. What I don't understand is why Dana has to back this up with further arguments. "To sit there and try to hand-pick people of where you want to go and everything else, you can’t in this f*cking sport. They’re all nasty. You’re a fighter. Get in there and f*cking see who you can beat."

Why is he even saying this? Obviously he can't hand-pick another fight if his future opponent is contractually obligated. What would Dana be "super-pissed" about? It's either fight Whittaker or don't fight at all, right? It sounds like he's admitting GSP has a way out of the obligation if he so desires. I think there is more to the contract than we're led to believe.

"I’m going to be super pissed, and I don’t know where we go from there,” White said. “Who’s better to fight at 170? You got Woodley, you got (Stephen) ‘Wonderboy’ (Thompson), you got (Yoel) Romero, and then you got Luke Rockhold. F*cking monsters. They’re all monsters."

What is this "I don't know where we go from there" business? Wouldn't you just show GSP the door? Or does he suddenly have leverage now?

Dana’s just saying what I’m saying... GSP won the belt against one of the weakest champions in ufc history and doesn’t want to defend it now against any of the tough competition...

But then in the same breath, Dana also says there isn't any weak competition. On that score, I think he IS right.

I'm starting to think he just wants to avoid a GSP-Conor clash since that might be a bad match for Conor. So Dana wants GSP to avoid going back to 170 at all costs. Otherwise, why protest so much? Why is it so damn essential that GSP follow the game plan at 185?

Because he has a better chance of losing to Whittaker, and then they get to promote Whittaker by saying he beat GSP for the rest of his career, which is sure to be longer than GSP's. He worth more money for them longterm at this point if he loses to someone they want to keep around, since he really might retire again at any moment.

That makes sense. I think the same argument could be made for Woodley though. Of course, maybe Dana feels the fight would be boring, whereas Whittaker would almost certainly win more spectacularly.

He better starts pulling some serious eyeballs if he ever plans to rake in GSP money, or making the UFC that type of money.

Whatever it is, it will probably be more than GSP will bring in when he's retired and not fighting, unless they make the next DJ fight GSP bobblehead night.

We would have to see how he'd headline a couple of PPV's but I think guys like GSP is a once in a lifetime deal. Of course, I really am hoping Whittaker takes off.
