During his training camp for his first UFC bout, CM Punk got his first stripe in BJJ as a white belt. A little over a year later, and the former WWE star is now a blue belt.

Roufousport BJJ coach Daniel Wanderley took to social media to announce the promotion.

CM Punk has been training and trying to get a second fight in the UFC for the past couple of months, and was reportedly supposed to meet with Dana White last weekend.

Punk, who lost his debut against Mickey Gall in 2…

Why respect him for achieving the same level of pajama grab-ass as any random hobbyist overweight dad?
Cause he was thoroughly publicly humiliated, and instead of taking the easy out and retiring with his millions, he stuck with it. I don't like him or any of these other WWE bullshit artists. But respect.

This. He has enough money to last a lifetime. He could have packed it in but he wants to prove something to himself. I like that.

Congrats to Phil on the blue belt, much respect to him for sticking at it. Take's balls to do what he is doing, but it's a recipe for disaster for him, he don't belong in the UFC.

I gotta get this off my chest though. The Phil Brooks situation bugs me a bit. I didn't like it from the start when it comes to the reputation of the sport, but for entertainment value it got my attention and I would watch it no matter what. I understand it's a business, and he's bringing wrestling fans over to this sport. But it makes the sport a bit of a circus.

The guy was 0-0 coming into this sport, no background in martial arts. I was cool with Brock, he has a background in wrestling. Glad the UFC gave Phil a decent fighter in Micky Gall, I take my hat off to them. I really hope they give him another opponent that is UFC quality. I wouldn't give him a lesser opponent just because he's green, I would make an example out of Phil, and show that MMA/UFC is for real.

You want to be a fucking fighter? Well, here's a taste of what might happen if you come into the UFC 0-0 (with no legit martial arts background).

Not attacking Phil at all, I don't blame him for having a crack. It's the UFC that is the problem here.

BJ penn was 0-0 when he joined the UFC.

But i agree with you 100% he should be fighting in a regional show

Yep, he was. I don't mind the 0-0, as long as you have legit skills in a martial art of some sort.

I edited my post to clear that up, thanks

I have often read on forums that a BJJ Blue belt could have won UFC1. So, CJ Punk could have been the UFC1 champ?

I'm sure that someone with the skills of a blue belt could have won it, however to deal with the nerves, and the adrenaline, and making the adjustments mid fight, while being the face of Gracie Jiu Jitsu.... You needed the grit and experience of a black belt.

In a time where there were hundreds upon thousands of mma fighters in the world with winning records ready to jump in there.

That fact makes no sense in this context.
