It’s not very often that a future title challenger opens as a betting favorite over a UFC champion, especially when that champ has defended his belt multiple times. But after the way that Francis Ngannou dispatched of Alistair Overeem at UFC 218 over the weekend in Detroit, that is the position he finds himself in. The odds have dropped for that potential title fight with Stipe Miocic, and linemakers are leaning slightly towards Ngannou right now:

Ngannou originally opened at -160 on 5Dimes, but now sits at -140. The French-Cameroonian fighter (11-1) has won every one of his six UFC bouts thus far, all before the final horn. His finish of Overeem came via…

Who has the longer reach?
Who has longer legs?
Who has better cardio?

I would think the last answer is Stipe but don't know about the first two.
If Stipe can successfully lure Francis into a mock slugfest then he should have no problems taking it in the later rounds but if he takes the bait then he'd better be a lot quicker in every respect or it's curtains for him.

And it begins..

FUCK betting on this fight..

I'm surprised the lines are not identical, or at worst Stipe being slight favourite.

Francis hasn't fought any high level wrestlers, and Stipe is NCAA Div 1 wrestler with good striking. Seems like the perfect kryptonite to shut down Francis.

If I was a betting man, I'd take Francis, hoping he can land a shot clean enough to TKO/KO Stipe.

The champs proven himself at this point I have alot pf respect for him as he has beaten so many of my favorite fighters but it's always been through a brutal means.Since he gets clipped often it's only a matter of time til he get Francis'd.
Hyped or not we all see the power he holds plus his fighter IQ is high of you ask me.Can the champ avoid that power long enough to wear him down?Unlikely unless he can hold him on the floor and nobody has yet.I think it would be a very bad idea to clinch up on the cage with Francis but thats how he nprmal wears down a fighter.
Mabye if he could out box him but he would have to be so on point and lucky to not get hit.If Stipe could some how aviod geting hit but damage and tire him out enough to get him to stop going forward he could win.But if that could happen then T-city would have the first round k.o button and could get back to suffering the same night.

Well put.
Stipe has been nothing but solid, no bullshit and gets the job done. BUT yeah he does get clipped a bit and Frances has shown that not only is it enough for for him to clip his opponent but he's composed and accurate.
Whatever happens, I hope that neither fighter gets shut off like Alistair was.
