Had a choice champagne brunch on that ship a few years ago, my Grandpa had something to do with it when he was in the RAF apparently.

What was that like?

I've just looked the ship up on google maps and it lets you drop the street view guy icon inside the ship for a look around. It looks pretty lavish, it must have been the height of luxury at the time.

It was a bit odd seeing a prime rib station next to where you get your omelette but I know now that's what it's like here in a lot of places. I don't think it's changed much since it was in service, the dining hall was pretty gaudy IIRC. It was nice, it felt like it was trapped in time.

Sounds awesome, I love things like that. The open air museum where I live called Beamish and the entire thing is set to mimic early 1900's Britain, if it wasn't for other tourists in regular clothes its almost as if you've travelled back in time.

Oh how lovely!! How did I know nothing about that? That shop looks like it's just for local people a'la The League of Gentlemen.

Colonial Williamsburg just north of where I lived in Virginia has a trapped in time place, it's full of taverns and people dressed up doing historical re-enactments. It's really pretty in the autumn.

St. John's, Newfoundland. Oldest city in North America, and the most Eastern. We are the fattest province and have the worst education. I can't read but I can recognise all the major food logos.

the actual cruise ships park right next to the queen mary they are huge.

the queen mary itself is now a museum, hotel, concert hall, ball room etc it is permanently docked I don't think it can ride in the ocean anymore.

parts lf it are nice and parts of it are rundown and gross ,I used to love the buffets and meals they used to host there on sundays. lots of the scenes from dexter were shot near the queen mary.

Plenty of old architecture around here. It's a very "German" city.

One of my favorite places is Union Terminal - which is now a museum but used to be a train station:
