I dont have a mind numbing job but there are definitely people who work here that have soul crushing monotonous jobs that would make you go mad.there is a section in the back of the shop where old women fill those little hotel shampoos by the thousands .day in day out one at a time.they are miserable.it is great.

Picked up a real nice vintage Cleaver at a yard sale recently

sells for 200 or so on eBay.

I got it for 6 bucks

She cuts right thru knuckles/joints on meat.

I use walnut oil to keep wood handle properly protected...is that the right oil?
Try Castrol GTX

I did my previous career for 20 years or so, different roles and responsibilities but same industry. I enjoyed the challenges up until the last 5 years or so then it became work to live and I took the same philosophy as your friend in the OP. I'd just go on auto pilot and let the other keen co-workers take the reigns and just get satisfaction in life through my family and hobbies.

I'm now on to bigger and better things that keep me much more stimulated and wanting more out of my work environment, so much to learn!

Try Linseed oil. I really haven't been working with wood handles long enough to notice a discernable difference. Cutco handles aren't wood, and I like synthetic handles my my outdoor knives, and as much as I cook, I keep my Cutco knives sharp enough to do anything I need. I'm not breaking down full primals or cutting through bones. Biggest thing I cut up is a turkey on thanksgiving. My knives work just fine for that.

Ya I don't' even know how to use my cleaver...I break it out for Ribs and even use it on Veggies, just so it gets some use.

Fairly unskilled with a kitchen knife...My lady is a Catering son of a bitch and she gots all the skill with a blade

Nah, my job isn't mind numbing, boring, or monotonous. I'm a geologist by education and work experience, and I also do a lot of biological work with endangered species (I'm a licensed geologist and federally permitted consultant that works with private clients, and also with city/county/state level clients as well). About 4 years ago my business partner and I opened up a shop, and that has been more rewarding than working for a bigger company even though it's the exact same work. At the heart of it, I enjoy lining my own pockets instead of someone else's - which was the real impetus for going out on our own.

Having a small business comes with its stresses for sure, but there is also a certain amount of freedom and control as well. I can't say that I love every aspect of my job, but I'm generally happy with what I do for work.

With that said, my work is not my life. I definitely "work hard to play hard". I work decently long hours most of the time, and I'm not a slack off. But I definitely work to live and not the other way around. A few years back I disconnected my work email from my phone, and my work computer stays at the office (and I don't even have a home PC). I do my work when I should be, but when I am home I spend time with my wife and son and don't think about work to the extent practical. I generally find more pleasure in my family and hobbies than I do in my work. My job is just a way to provide for us and to let us live life the way we want to.

I’ve been a delivery driver for about 10 months. I’m an accountant and researcher by professions.

It was really a last resort as I couldn’t find a job in those professions and even in other unskilled areas (labouring which i previously did a lot of).

It’s good to make money and still be able to support myself, although I still often wonder “what I’m doing with my life”

Selling drugs can be extremely mind numbing and boring, I always enjoyed it though

Love my job. Right now I'm at a school where my boss makes Splinty @Splinty look stupid. Speaks 11 fucking languages including Navajo. At my previous school the head English teacher spoke Thai with me.

If you boil down what i do to a very basic level then it's terrible boring.

I drive. I deliver things. I stand in place in funny hats. I push buttons. Rinse and repeat up to 18 hours a day very often.
