Why do Yous think Khabib is a terrible match-up for Conor?

I for one think it's the other way around.

Is Khabib a great grappler? No doubt. But is he going to get Conor down? Highly unlikely. He doesn't have wrestling-style takedowns like Chad Mendes (who Conor didn't worry about getting taken down by bc he knew Chad would gas).

What was his first takedown of Iaquinta? A desperate grab for the ankle that he only barely got. HE WON'T GET THAT AGAINST CONOR, because Conor knows how to maintain distance.

Khabib has to grab hold of a guy, normally in a clinch, to get the guy down. Again, that's not going to happen against Conor. DID YOUS EVEN WATCH THE ALVAREZ FIGHT? Eddie got nowhere close to a TD.

So what are your reasons? I've already nullified Mendes, so maybe it's bc of the first Nate fight? No, that doesn't make sense because Conor is the one who gassed and shot a sloppy double.

Maybe Conor's two submission losses? Lol, 10 years ago and 7.5 years ago, respectively. He's had a lot of time to get better, and we've seen it.

Besides, of Khabib's 26 wins, only 8 have been submissions. Face it, he's not a submission specialist. Khabib's other 18 wins are comprised of 8 knockouts (never going to happen and even the biggest Conor haters know this) and 10 decisions.

So the hope people have in Khabib is that he's gonna take Conor down and control him for a decision win. BUT THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED.

Thoughts?

I think that Conor has a great chance against Khabib because he will pay for the training to make sure he's ready before he faces him.

Also, see bjj scout's breakdown of Al's performance. I think Al's adjustments laid down a blueprint against Khabib. He couldn't execute what he needed to, but Conor will for sure. Imo, it is more likely that Conor can improve and adjust to Khabib's habits before they fight than that Khabib will improve and adjust to Conor. I could be wrong, but I think Conor has a lot of experience now with these drastic learning curve-expensive training camps, so unless he is having a bad night for other reasons, he would probably be ok in there against Khabib.

I think this is it:

Khabib has a chance if he can avoid the hands and get a take down or hold Conor against the fence for the first few rounds.

But if he can't, it's going to be death for him, the way he holds his head up high and moves straight back. Especially that lazy jab he was hitting Ragin Al with. Conor has that pull back left counter spring loaded to go over that lazy jab.

Khabib spends the first 3 or 4 rounds jabbing Conor's face off to soften him for the TD. We saw a glimpse of this strategy in rounds 3-4 against Al.

They are both terrible match ups for each other.if conor gets taken down he gets ground into the mat.if khabib eats a left hand he goes to sleep

Nate Diaz took conor down for crying out loud.
This is like saying "MJ landed shots on Khabib for crying out loud."

Khabib will get a TD if this fight happens and Conor will land punches. It's just a matter who gets there first.

We simply can't compare Nate and Khabib.

One knows how to box and one just learned how to throw a jab

Khabib can't make it out of the first round with his zero head movement. He has to pray that he makes it out of the first round and Connor gets gassed otherwise he has no chance.

If McGregor matches up so well against Khabib, he should have fought him long ago since it would have been an easy fight, right?

Mj is a far better puncher Than nate is a wrestler...that might be the only takedown I've ever seen him get.

not sure who "Yous" is...generalizing a bit much IMO

I don't think it is a terrible matchup for either.

Khabib has a chin and is human and could be KOed.

Conor has a heart and limited grappling skill and can be broken.

Biggest variable is if Conor ever gets in fight shape like he was pre may weather again and if he his hungry to fight or just take a payday.

I give the fight a 25% chance of happening....I think it is more likely Conor fights Mayweather in ring for 30 million or nate diaz again for another standup battle...I don't think he really wants to fight a guy who wants to ground him

My biggest concern with Conor vs Khabib is not Khabib, but Conor himself.

Conor's biggest weakness is energy conservation. We've seen him over exert and gas himself out several times, most recently in the Mayweather fight.

If you look at the success Nate had, it wasn't from anything he did in particular, it was Conor gassing himself out. When Conor faded, that's when Diaz would have success. If Conor doesn't fade, Diaz doesn't win a minute of that fight.

So if Conor can maintain his wind, I don't think he'll have much a problem against Khabib. If he finds himself gassed out and on bottom, he's going to be in a lot of trouble.

There's a lot that has went into that, and avoiding Khabib doesn't factor in. He fought at LW and then went and made like 100 million to fight Floyd, then he took time off and threw a dolly into a window. When is this "long ago" that you speak of?
