LOL, again you are showing ignorance. In his Prime , in Pride, he had fights like that and also had high strategy IQ fights, point is he did it all.

Your boy SCADA @SCADA's post leaves that part out

Try again
What part of me calling him a "brilliant technician" did you not understand? Of course he had high strategy IQ fights. He also had a propensity to brawl wildly at times.

You're calling me ignorant for saying something we both agree on lol. Maybe you just like to act inflammatory and battle with people on forums?

George's has the better resume and acheivements as of now.
I think GSP's accomplishments will ring truer as the years go on, especially with post-Pride fans who only have the UFC as a frame of reference.

I loved Pride and Fedor as much as the next guy, but Georges had to fight the toughest challenger every time out. I mean if you look at his UFC tenure, what are the weakest links? I guess Jay Hieron and Dan Hardy? It's a far cry from Yuji Nagata and Zulu. Newer generations of MMA fans will recognise that.

In what way though
I am not taking anything any from GSP but the numbers are not all telling.
You are only counting Fedor's time in PRIDE for TIME AS CHAMPION- Fedor was the considered the Heavyweight champion for 2659 days until he lost to Fabrício Werdum.
Also using Matt Serra in multiple ways to pad the stats.

And the current champ Woodley had to fight Jay, former interim Condit fought Hardy. Those two aren't contender fights by any means but they needed to be fought to clear out the division. Every fighter has some softies on their resume but looking at everyone else they beat I don't see it as an issue.

Another big feather in GSPs cap was his drawing power without stooping to habitual Jimmy rustling to make the headlines. True professional and champion in and out of the cage. I mean who really jumps at supporting a French Canadian!

Well I would suggest you're the one a bit slow on the uptake, because you were just pinked and you seem to be jumping right back into your same ways.

You come into threads and just attack and insult people instead of engaging in intelligent, respectful debate, which I believe is the mandate of this forum. You don't make any salient points, you're just a rude little fellow. You've been banned twice from the UG, you've been pinked here, but you don't seem to learn your lesson. But hey, if following me around and giving me "drunk" and "optimistic" rankings makes you feel good about yourself, please proceed. I just find it amusing :D

I lol at using Serra as a HOF win I'll give you that. But that's just one reference, you can't deny GSP avenging that loss in brutal fashion. 2 loses and he got them both back is the point. Coker should book Hendo vs Fedor 2!

That made laugh out loud, and yeah guilty haha. Matt "The Stat Padda" Serra

But as far as the champion thing... I can only go by the official record. Sure, Fedor was undisputed #1 HW until he lost to Werdum, but as Pride champion, that has to end when Pride ends.

GSP didn't lose his title either, so technically he could be considered the #1 WW on the planet after he vacates the title, but I could only go purely on the record, and not take liberties.

Funny, I was writing in a "drawing power" statistic comparison in the OP, but I figured people here would think I was getting on Fedor's case a bit too much, so I left it out. Because obviously that's a stat GSP is going to blow Fedor and most others out of the water on.

We scoff at Dan Hardy as an opponent for GSP... but GSP managed to sell 770k PPV's fighting Hardy, which speaks a lot about his drawing power and the respect MMA fans have for him.

I agree that GSP is the man but I was always more pumped when Fedor fought. They both have a good case. GSP had better competition all around but Fedor fought as a small heavyweight and was smaller than most of his opponents. Most of Fedor's losses came after his prime and with GSP retiring early it is hard to compare.

PS. Change your damn screenname to something GSP related if you are such a big fan.

How do you mean retired early? He fought pro from 02 to 13 then returned, so over a decade then came back to win another title. I mean isn't 9 consecutive title defenses enough? He won 13 title fights total iirc too and is tied with Bisping for most UFC wins at 20.

These are the two guys who never failed a drug test and dominated their divisions for many years. I think it's only fair to compare these two to determine the #1 GOAT. If I made a mistake in one of my comparisons feel free to correct me, it's late at night here.

When you look at the stats and the facts objectively, I think there's no real option but to acknowledge GSP as the #1 GOAT.

TITLES WON

Fedor - PRIDE Heavyweight Championship, WAMMA Heavyweight Championship, RINGS Openweight Championship

GSP - UFC Welterweight Championship (x2), UFC Middleweight Championship, UCC Welterweight Championship

TITLE DEFENCES

Fedor - 3 (Nogueira, Crocop, Mark Hunt)

GSP - 9 (Fitch, BJ Penn, Alves, Dan Hardy, Koscheck, Shields, Ondit, Nick Diaz, Johny Hendricks)

TIME AS CHAMPION

Fedor - 1663 days (Won the title 03/16/2003, Pride folds 10/04/2007)

GSP - 2064 days (Won the title 04/19/2008, vacated 12/13/2013), + 140 days of first title run

UFC CHAMPIONS BEATEN

Fedor - 5 (Coleman, Randleman, Sylvia, Arlovski, Mir), 1 interim champ (Nogueira)

GSP - 6 (Hughes, Sherk, BJ Penn, Matt Serra, Johny Hendricks, Michael Bisping), 1 interim champ (Condit)

UFC HALL OF FAMERS BEATEN

Fedor - 2 (Mark Coleman, Nogueira)

GSP - 3 (Matt Hughes, Matt Serra, BJ Penn)

LOSSES

Fedor - 5 (4 KO/TKO, 1 SUB), 1 avenged (Kosaka)

GSP - 2 (1 KO/TKO, 1 SUB), both losses avenged (Hughes x2, Serra)

FIGHTMETRIC STATS

*Note: FightMetric doesn't seem to have Fedor's last 4 fights logged in, which included the KO loss to Mitrione and war with Maldonado, so his stats may appear slightly better than what they actually are.

Fedor:

Significant Strikes landed per minute: 3.18
Significant Striking Accuracy: 51%
Significant Strike Defence: 63%
Takedown Accuracy: 63%
Takedown Defence: 82%

GSP:

Significant Strikes landed per minute: 3.78
Significant Striking Accuracy: 53%
Significant Strike Defence: 72%
Takedown Accuracy: 74%
Takedown Defence: 83%

So it seems like GSP has outdone Fedor in pretty much every way.
GSP lost a fight and retired immediately IMO

Hendricks pieced him up

why knock a fighter down to boost another....I don't understand that phenomenon

all good though...enjoy

GSP retired at 32 years old. He has 1 comeback fight after that.
Fedor did not have his first real loss until he was 34 years old.
At the same age GSP retired(32), he had lost via submission and KO, Fedor's only loss was the RING's bs.

I see but how did that work out for each of them? Perhaps Fedor has prolonged his career far too long and that has tarnished his legacy? Also stats will show that the bigger the fighter the better they perform into their older age. Look at the the average age of HWs compared to FWs. Speed goes first, power goes last. To be a pro fighter for 10+ years shouldn't be considered an early retirement regardless of age from start to finish I'd say. Guys like Werdum, Brock, Alistair and more are in or close to 40 and still considered some of the best. I can't think of any fighters atvWW or smaller in their 40s who are in the top 5. There may be a few but not like the big fellas.

Fedor has definitely fought to long. It sucks to see the old greats fall but that is what happens in sports if they keep going.
That is what makes his win over Mir so satisfying, the same as GSP's win over Bisbing was so satisfying as an older MMA fan.

I don't think I knocked down Fedor. I prefaced the thread by saying that I thought GSP and Fedor were the two best ever, because they dominated and never failed a drug test.

Being 2nd to GSP is not a knock down IMO!

cool...I hear ya...and nice that you don't convict without a failed test like some do

I just find the timing odd...Fedor winning brought out haters on many forums...wasn't sure if you were one but I just see the trend

But I do get it in a way, because he is back in the spotlight....all old discussions will likely be fired up again

take care....GSP is a beast for sure

This is true, but the old adage has stipulated that heavyweights have their best years at a more advanced age (unless your name is Mike Tyson).

I mean just look at the current UFC HW division.

Champ Stipe Miocic - 35.
1. Ngannou - 31 (or so he claims, according to Derick Lewis, lol)
2. Overeem - 37
3. Volkov - 29
4. Blaydes - 27
5. Werdum - 40
6. Derick Lewis - 33
7. Mark Hunt - 44
8. Tybura - 32
9. Arlovski - 39
10. Oleynik - 40

So the top 10 + champ at HW have an average age of just over 35 years.

So I don't think you can equate Fedor to GSP in that regard, as those who fight at a lighter weights don't have the longevity that HW's do.

Again, op throws out stats with no true analysis. This is just listing ages, you don't just judge a fighter by calendar age, even a teenager knows this. It's how long they have been in the sport, how manyh fights have they had, how many wars have they been in.

Cormier is almost 40, yet has taken way less shots to the head than some guys who are 30 because he got in MMA late and was wrestling mostly. You can be 31 years old and be past your prime, you can be 36 and in your prime, it depends on a lot of factors, listing numbers like this, just like was done in opening post by op, really does not paint the real picture.

Everyone here who disagreed is debating in a friendly manner... except you. I'm not salty that people don't agree with me, I just expect people to discuss things like adults, not 13 year olds.

I don't care about you attacking me, like I said I find it amusing. I've just noticed you seem to go into attack mode on different posters because you disagree with something they said. It's not the sign of an intelligent person - quite the contrary!
