UFC 224 The Lowest Selling PPV In The Last 10 Years? | Terez Owens

Reports coming in that UFC 224 is going to be the lowest selling PPV for the ufc in the past 10 years. Amanda Nunes previous fight at ufc 215 sold a speculated 100,000 buys and our sources are saying Ufc 224 is going to fall well below that mark with estimates near the 85k mark. With ESPN+ now paying 10 million per fight event, expect the UFC to promote similar cards with their new broadcast partners moving forward. For a UFC PPV show to generate $10 million, it has to be about 285,000 buys. But I guess it’s to be expected when they promote 225 before 224 was even over with.-TO

85k buys... wow.

It would take 20 Amanda Nunes PPV's to generate 1 Conor PPV. Crazy.

Somewhere Mighty Mouse is doing cartwheels. "YAY I'M NOT THE WORST DRAW IN THE UFC ANYMORE!!!"

Well also the prelims were on a different channel - how did it compare to the last time prelims were on FX? I feel like the UFC weren't expecting more than 100-150k so they sacrificed it to fulfill their Fox contract.

This main event and the WNBA both prove the people are not interested in watching a lesbian only sport. People like watching lesbians, just not clothed. :D

Not to say I somehow watched the fights online because the PPV service provider for Germany (14.99€) are morons and the ppv replay is only online Sunday afternoon so they can go and suck a d*** .... but I have heard that this is a real shame, as the fights were said to be quite entertaining !
I wouldn't have felt bad at all had I bought and watched (lol) that PPV.

Pay Per View Buys | Tapology

If this truly does 85k, that would make it 1k less than UFC 1, which did 86k.

To put this in perspective, it would be the worst selling PPV post-TUF 1.

BTW, look at the top 5 UFC PPVs of all time - Conor is head lining 4 out of 5 lol
Event Date Main Event Buyrate
1 UFC 202 Aug 20/16 Nate Diaz vs Conor McGregor 1,650,000
2 UFC 100 Jul 11/09 Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir 1,600,000
3 UFC 196 Mar 5/16 Conor McGregor vs Nate Diaz 1,500,000
4 UFC 205 Nov 12/16 Eddie Alvarez vs Conor McGregor 1,300,000
4 UFC 194 Dec 12/15 Jose Aldo vs Conor McGregor 1,200,000

Which is why Paul Daley is banned from the UFC and Conor is not.

and Dana, if he even cares anymore, will come out and blame Amanda for not being a draw. I find it kind of lame that we're all so concerned with who's a draw these days rather than who's the best, most exciting, toughest, etc. Imagine an old-school boxing fan saying "man I hope Robinson wins the fight. LaMotta would be a terrible draw."

that said, get the women out of the main event, except maybe Cyborg vs. a viable challenger

lol yeah, I had to laugh when people were talking seriously about the UFC cutting Conor.

"Here you go Bellator, enjoy the hundreds of millions Conor will generate for you guys over the next few years!"

As much as I think Conor should be cut for what he did it would be a terrible, horrible, absolutely no good business decision on WME,s part.

I know I keep beating this drum to death, but a show like this absolutely should have been a Fox card. It was a great show that could have converted some new fans if it were available for free. Instead the UFC may have actually made less money from the 85k buys than they would have from broadcast rights fees.

FrankieNYC @FrankieNYC I think you called this as possibly sub-100, right?
Yes, but to be fair the guy reporting this is FoS a lot.
As mentioned in another thread, he also reported that NBC/ESPN signed UFC & were doing split rosters (0-3)
Truth is, no concrete numbers come out Wednesday morning after a PPV*
His track record is suspect at best, but like you mentioned that number is possible

* as we saw with MayMac (since SHO releases PPV) no numbers are released that fast.
But Meltzer might have a very early estimate by morning

If it was a FOX card?
They certainly did make less at 85k

but they are locked into contracts & FOX won't change/add content bc UFC wants

They are stuck until 2019

Also they are contracted to do X-amount of PPV per year.
To get a larger % they signed a deal coinciding with the TV deal (it seems)

He would never go there
I see him co-pro with Golden Boy or on his own before that.
