Y’all are talking sensitivity and in the same breathe complaining about being called cracker?

What historic significance has the word cracker ever had besides something to call a white person when they get racial?

I like to go to bars in redneck neighborhoods and write "kill all crackers" on the wall of one of the bathroom stalls.

Usually when I go back to said bar the entire wall has been replaced.

I would honestly give 0 amount of shits if a black person called me a cracker, honkie, or any other racial term.

Sorry, I don't think anyone should be using those words in any context outside of historical education. Kendrick shouldn't be using them either. If it's allowed because it's "art" then he shouldn't be criticizing people for enjoying it or quoting it especially when he asks them to.

I'm not saying the jokes aren't funny, but I do believe they aren't necessary and they reinforce ideas that don't need reinforcement.

There is a difference in how it's used, but not everyone has the same feel for it or the same sense of humor, and it's simply not worth keeping around - imo there is very little that can be said using racist terminology that is more important than why we would choose not to use it.

Just my two cents. (But those are not the same cents as my cents about GFL, but I don't want to get into that. Obviously, I miss him being around here.)

Historical context means nothing when it comes to intent.

Calling a person cracka with contempt in your heart is far worse than the girl in the video saying "nigga"

They both matter.

But when someone uses the word cracker what is their intent?

I just find it strange that the ones who are most vulnerable to a certain word and the people that detest the word the most are the ones that give the word power. No matter how ugly a word is and what history it has, we all have the ability to choose how we react. Ten years ago, "f*ggot" had very little power because it was just thrown around willy nilly and maybe 5% of it's use or less was against actual homosexuals.

It just seems counter productive to artificially inflate a certain word into this weapon that can be used to cause legitimate stress and trauma. It's like loading a gun and handing it over to any racist to use against you.

Again intent matters more than history.
Again they both matter....intent matters more than history is easy to say but wrong.....they both matter equally.

You can call your best friends any type of insult(racist or homophobic you name it) and no one will bat an eye.

A stranger? a friend of a friend? co worker?

They both matter equally that's why you have to gauge both before you open your mouth.

Not here to debate racial sensitivity..Just wish all the bs arguing over a word would just be done hoever. We all need just to get the f along and move along.. she messed up saying the N word but the over dramatic reaction and threats towards that girl are ridiculous..I was being sarcastic btw tone in text is hard to read sometimes.

Cracker, sometimes white cracker or "cracka", is a colloquial term for white people,[1] used especially for poor rural whites in the Southern United States. It is also at times used indiscriminately and pejoratively against any person of white background. However, it is sometimes used in a neutral or positive context or self-descriptively with pride in reference to a native of Florida or Georgia (see Florida cracker and Georgia cracker)
What the fuck is a "white background"?
