After Gegard Mousasi’s championship win over Rafael Carvalho at Bellator 200, the newly-crowned middleweight champion called out welterweight title holder Rory MacDonald in the post-fight interview at London’s SSE Arena.

MacDonald, who captured the welterweight title after beating Douglas Lima via unanimous decision in the Bellator 192 main event, responded to ‘The Dreamcatcher’ on social media and accepted his challenge.

The fighters want it, and the fans want it. But Bellator CEO Scott Coker told fans not get their hopes up too much, as it could take a while for Bellator to work out the logistics of get the fight booked.

According to Coker, Mousasi wants to take some time…

It'll happen, the timing just isn't working out. Rory wants to fight asap, but Mousasi wants to take a break. And I have a feeling they're planning a WW tournament for next year, so they'll want/need Rory for that.

wasn't that long ago Lawler was making mincemeat of Rory's face, and Mousasi is significantly larger than Robbie and has a stiff accurate jab.
First fight was a split decision, second fight they make mincemeat of each other's faces and Rory didn't stop till the 5th. Collectively, it took Lawler 8 rounds to finish Rory.

First fight was still clearly Robbie though, that performance surprised a lot of people, he just rubber stamped it in the rematch.

I don't want it to happen at all.
I think Rory would get killed, it would diminish his stock, and Rory hasn't even come close to establishing dominance in the WW division.
A Welterweight tournament would be incredible.
Mousasi should rematch Schlemenko, as casual fans don't know too much about his recent loss.
If not, there's Lovato Jr., Shipman, Salter, Manhoef, and the biggest threat to his title, Anatoly Tokov.
And prime Mousasi can superfight up divisions instead of down.
IMO, he's the "clean" GOAT of his divisions; a guy who Heavyweights are afraid of shouldn't be going down to destroy the stock of the welterweight champion, which I'm sure he would do.
In the WAY off chance he doesn't, what then?!

I'd definitely watch, but it's a bad move for the company long-term imo.

I think it would be fine. Rory has nothing to lose- if he loses, it's to highly regarded Mousasi. If he wins, he vacates WW title and moves up to defend his new belt. For Mousasi, a win over Rory means more one too name added to his legacy. If he loses, he remains a fight or to away from a rematch. Plus, he knows fights against Lovato Jr or Tokov are risky, because those guys have the skill to beat him. If he loses either of those fights, this fight with Rory might be off the table for the foreseeable future. Best to ask for it now.

Although this isn't a far-fetched pov, imo, it isn't going to happen anytime soon, and after the beating Lima put on Rory, I'd hate to see another by a far better fighter, which holds up two divisions, and then have Rory come back down to a possible rematch with Lima, or even worse, Koreshkov.
The way Bellator is (more aptly, aren't) marketing their non-fluently-english-speaking champs and contenders, if Rory gets his ass handed to him by Moose(likely), then comes down and gets his ass beat by Koreshkov, then Lima, I think he hangs them up. If he stays at WW and gets paid decent enough and just loses a couple at WW, I can see his fire still there, and I doubt he takes as serious a beating in the WW division as Mousasi is likely to hand out.
I agree that Lovato and Tokov are risky for Mousasi. Certainly Mousasi/Rory is financial a home run for both guys as well as fans, this is just one of the rare situations where I'm concerned about the business side of it, as Bellator has been living in the red since Coker took over.
If Mousasi loses, I don't think he fights twice before a rematch, I think it's once at best and possibly immediate, which holds up things further.
I also think Rich Chou and Coker are realizing this as well as other outcomes, hence the reconsideration and brake pumping.
What none of us wants is another long waiting period of inactivity surely.

Would love to see a WW tournament. Hell, any weight class. I love tournaments. Just hope they speed future ones up.

They're definitely doing more, but I imagine they will also be year long tournaments.
