Tour de France kicks off in about 10 minutes. Big race. Big scandals. Bigggg

Gonna be a great race. I could do a full breakdown of the race from start to finish but I think it might fall on deaf ears.

I just hope for a Cavendish, he isnt a very nice person it seems but he is so good to watch on the bike

When was the last time someone won that race and didn't piss hot?

Instead of banning Lance Armstrong they should make him the Master of Ceremonies.

He did. They just covered it up
I really dont see how doping is so bad in cycling. Its not a combat sport and the teams with the most money win anyway. When the sponsors decide to cut funding because of it then the sport will clean itself up

Lance armstrong did more for the sport and the world than all the other cyclists combined ever. They brought down a charity monster and biggest name the sport ever had over a little epo. Now he is probably living on some Island banging dimes with his 1 nut while the sport slips further and further into obscurity.

how does timing work. the front group comes in, and i see some people just casually finishing it up. does everone within the groups get the same time? and does it depend on if it's a sprint or a climb?

I really dont see how doping is so bad in cycling.
The TDF is one of the toughest tests of endurance there is. To perform at that level for so many consecutive days is almost an inhuman expectation for athletic performance. Some argue that it is actually healthier for the athletes to have a little juice during the TDF. I tend to agree, if I'm not considering the rules/ethics of doping.

In modern cycling these guys are so god damn skinny, they starve themselves to be lighter (all about power to weight ratios). I can't imagine being famished and/or under nourished and then trying to ride like they do. I've never done any PEDs (or dick pills ;)), but I imagine it's like rocket fuel. I can certainly understand the allure.

I forget the name, maybe benjo0101 @benjo0101 knows, but during one of Lances winning years a guy told Greg Lemond that he knew Lance was doping "because you could see no pain in his eyes" on a hard climb where Lance was pulling away from the pack.

Its fucking cycling. They have been doping since they started the race. Just because the dope is better doesnt make it any less worthy to win.

Its just human nature to look for the advantage

So not everyone there is trying to win. Some are just there to help others and finish. So time doesn't matter to them. It's odd but cycling is a team sport. Time gaps are one of those things. Decided after the day by people who look for "a reasonable gap" between riders. Then they time it. You can't have a time of less than a second on the overall. For stage wins it's on placing not time

It's subjective. I want to see clean competition. But honestly I just want good racing. Moderately clean is fine, but I don't want money to just define it

Who gets to define moderate? These guys are peddling bikes not punching each other in the face. 50 years ago they were dopimg for the same reasons they do today.

I think quite a few said it. The thing is. People think Lance was all dope. No. He as a phenomenon on he bike. I am cat 2 UK so a really decent level and I could smash as much epo as I want and I'm no where near that level.

I really didn't want this thread to descend into doping talk. I'm definitely a fact holder. Many many books. Interviews. I've actually known people who tried it. But it's not really about that.

You are 100% correct. Tdf is a fair way the hardest test of endurance in the world. Nothing compares. Nothing. Haters gonna hate but I'll put you on a bike for 6 hours a day and put you at 125% of your limit then at the end 160%+. I can go deep, really deep. But nothing I do comes close to how deep these guys go day after day and THEN go even deeper to actually win something. Low weight. High output.

I'm on my phone so not that good at writing. I'll be on the pc tomorrow so can wax lyrical about it properly

Totally agree. I live in Lance-land (Austin, TX) and people here are really divided on how they feel about him. I used to see him doing training rides around town with the team, and I’ve done mountain bike races at his ranch/property.

I look forward to seeing how the race plays out this year. You pulling for anyone to take it home? I’m undecided.
