We live in the era of the superfight and, while many fans have criticized the UFC’s matchmaking as of late, reigning heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic is open to the idea of big money fights.

That’s why Miocic, 35, wasted no time in accepting a champ vs. champ title bout with current light heavyweight kingpin Daniel Cormier, who will be moving up in weight to challenge Miocic for the heavyweight strap at UFC 226 this Saturday.

But there’s already talk of Miocic defending his title against the likes of Brock Lesnar after the bout, and it’s been rumored that the WWE superstar will be in attendance at UFC 226 to watch the action unfold between Miocic and Cormier in the main event.

I would love to see this fight, just to see how Jones' length and wrestling would translate to HW.

The sport should really move on past Jones. He has cheated both other fighters and the fans enough already.

No...

I like to watch guys (and some chicks) fight. Bones is one of the best we've ever seen. I want to see him fight some more.
For his haters, eventually age and other variables (lack of juice) will catch up to him and you'll
get to revel in even his further fall from grace. But for now, I still want to see him elbow the fuck out of folks.

It comes from the so-called journalists and other people in the media. They throw out the names Jones and Lesnar and try to garner clicks amd views from baited fans, or anyone who recognizes those names.
My impression is they don't know any other way of generating interest in their material.

I could be wrong but why else would an interviewer ask Miocic about Jones at that point in time?

What the article is doing on this site is a different story....or is it?

Decent point
There are very few fighters of interest in MMA these days.
Old names make news.
Stipe is fighting another champion & the buzz is minimal.
its a sad time for MMA interest

The first step to recovery is admitting to the problem.

The UFC has never had much skill at marketing.
Anybody could get Conor or Honda or Brock or Bones over. The UFC can promote stars, to some extent, but they've never been able to create them.
There will always be a segment of the population that likes combat sports, you just have to present your offering to them properly. If mainstream MMA fails, it's all on the business side of the industry, not the fighters and not the fans.

I hear what you are saying but do you apply the same logic to Dan henderson, Vitor, Anderson, Chael, Brock, Brian Ortega...?

I think roids or not, its clear Jones is as talented as anyone ever in history, and he is an asshole but I personally feel so far he is the best fighter ever. When I look at all the top p4p guys, the only ones who for sure seem clean are literally 2 guys, Mighty Mouse and Cormier.

I want Jones to come back, be clean and let's see what happens. Trust me, I get your point of view, but just about all of these great fighters have been on something. If you want to disqualify Jon then you need to do the same with all of them, but none wants to do that. They only want to disqualify the guys they don't like.

Or maybe the real answer is that WME can't promote worth shit, so all they can do is "brock blah blach, Conor blah blah, Jones blah blah"

That is the actual reality

There is plenty of interest in MMA, fans ain't stupid though, you put a good product out there and we will flock to it.

But that segment is less than its been in years.
I'm not saying UFC has done a great job promoting, I said many times I don't think WME have used their connections & power to help UFC fighters get on mainstream shows. I thought that would be a given. Heck even the celeb ultra-minority owners (that bought in) hardly mention UFC cards. It is asinine.
But they don't control Bellator & Bellator interest has waned as well.
Obviously I never said "MMA is dying", but the interest is not as big as it was.
Outside of a big draw, the people that care to see a regular UFC/Bellator card is less than it was.
That is why the DAZN deal was important, it helps Bellator stay alive fiscally & hopefully they can get a better TV deal/fit than the one with Paramount, so they can offset the lack of exposure.
It is a chess game these days with mainstream MMA.

You have a job?

Now that is a more interesting nugget than any MMA news on this thread...

he has to..he can't generate interest solo, he needs compelling opp to get him the money and crossover appeal he yearns for

We Will never know how good he really is.

He likely Juiced his entire career...if we see him clean then we can judge him better...osp jones was not great and he went all "power lifter" soon afterwards, so I think he knows he needs a ped edge to separate himself from the pack.

He does have a crazy frame fo r 205 tho

nice 8th grade level comedy, I thought you could only muster 3rd grade level ;)
You're not wrong but when your earlier reply began with "LOL at (your idea)" you're not showing the consistency you would want from others. C'mon man, fair is fair.

As Stipe(Michael Stipe from R.E.M.) said, "Everybody Hurts!" But seriously though folks... Why not let the babyface(Stipe) get it on with the heel(Jones)? If they had any shred of marketing savy they could turn it into a moneymaker. They're too busy trying to whip the brotherman into submission and make an example to appear like they legit than look at the dollar signs. C'mon, so the brother likes to partay a bit-- rockstars party yall. So what. Kinda makes me yearn for the early UFC days when there were no weight classes, no drug tests and they fought 3 times a night for peanuts. AC DC said, "If you want blood, you got it!". ... God, I'm old! I remember when coked out/juiced up monsters used to go bare-knuckle in the octagon just for street cred and a shite paycheck. Now ya got Dana the weenie watcher pleading a brother to piss in a cup to fight.
