Just watched the fight for the first time and..... uh..... why is anyone celebrating this win?

DC pokes Stipe in the left eye VERY intentionally and then 10-15(?) seconds later KO's him with a punch that catches Stipe on his left side that he doesn't see coming..... because he just got poked in the eye....

Am I missing something.....?

Inadvertent, he’s wrestler and he’s always reaching.....its natural.

The fault sits with the glove makers....they need to get their shit together

This isn’t deliberate like travis brown mitrione.....there is no glove that would have stopped that travesty

reaching to snatch your eye out!!

jk jk.

there are certain styles that lead to eye pokes. It's on the UFC to implement a fix like Pride style gloves or deducting more points to make fighters change their style.

It was funny to me that Nevada did not adopt the new unified rules, which means the ref cannot penalize you for keeping your fingers not pointed straight up at the ceiling if your hand is open. Kept warning him, but was powerless to do anything until an actual eyepoke happened.

Regardless, shit happens. I don't think it takes anything away from DC's win, we see eye pokes and nut shots all the time. Both of them were employing a clinch strategy, to the point of repeatedly grabbing each other's hands "test of strength" pro wrestling style. It was bound to happen, and there's a gif of stipe poking Cormier in the eye earlier in the fight.

The problem is Stipe opened his eyes wide right where DC fingers were trying to go.
Stipe is at fault here. Keep your eyes closed where other people fingers are going duh

The big homie Curly from 3 stooges taught us this...

After Curly walks into Moe and spills paint all over him

Moe - "You imbecile. Why don't you look where you're going?"

Curly - "Well why don't you go where I'm looking?"

Problem solved

Stipe's fault here for having his eyes where DC's fingers were going

Well, unfortunately it has become an unwritten rule amongst refs that they have to share an allowance of 1 point deduction every quarter year.

Can’t be enforcing rules if it means Mario can’t raise his finger this time around.

The ref stops the action and there was a 30 second break before Stipe said he could continue, then there was 41 seconds of fighting before Daniel hit Stipe with the shot that dropped him. So we've got a minute and eleven seconds between the two events, or 41 seconds if you go by the clock only.

Disagree. DC thru a jab with his fingers extended. Just like Bones does.
