Morgan Freeman says it best...

That was powerful, if everyone would be even 1/5 as articulate and intelligent as Morgan Freeman what a place this world would be. Something akin to a Utopia, maybe even Utopia honestly.

This past week was the hardest week in my 22 years with Papa John's. I know the words of John Schnatter were offensive, and nothing pains me more than knowing they hurt you. To be clear, those words in no way represent my views or the values of our company. As the leader of Papa John's, I'm sorry.

Racism and insensitive language - no matter the context - will not be tolerated at any level of our company. Period.

Papa John's is not an individual. Papa John's is a pizza company with 120,000 corporate and franchise team members around the world. These are the people in your communities from all walks of life who work hard to provide you with better service and better pizza. These are your local owners and operators who do so much in your community.

Still, you deserve actions, not just words, so here's what we're going to do about it:

  • We're in the process of bringing in outside experts to help audit our company's culture and diversity and inclusion practices. This will allow us to identify our strengths and weaknesses. We will then set clear goals to do better.
  • Our senior management team will be on the road, listening to our employees and franchisees and getting their feedback on a path to move forward.
  • We'll be transparent with you along the way. We want you to hold us accountable.
I will personally be leading this effort because there is nothing more important for Papa John's right now. We want to regain your trust, and we will work hard to earn it. I know this will take time.

The entire team at Papa John's wants to thank you for your loyalty. We are only in business because of you. And it's our sincere wish that we'll continue to have the honor of serving you.

Sincerely,
Steve Ritchie
CEO, Papa John's

Insensitive language, lol. Really? Whatever happened to "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.". Does the whole world need to become a safe space now?

University of Louisville and everyone around here went full knee jerk, and made mountains out of a mole hill. That said, I think UofL was looking for a reason to disassociate themselves from this douchebag, and he handed it to them.

That was a funny one,

I was surfing the net on a slow day at work a month or 2 or 3 ago, I remember some article that was recent, and Lauryn Hill was regretting her comments and wishing she phrased it better, not exact words but I recall the interview her being contrite about that. So seems she is admitting at least some kind of mistake back then yo.

This is why when people like me talk about how much racism still exists and we get shooed away and told we are being dramatic, it's stories like this that paint to light how people really are in particular circles.

It's no surprise at all that the same loser who was shitting on the NFL players for protesting against injustice, especially racial, is the same guy throwing the N word around.

Just look like if you go on social media, you will see white people, black people, middle eastern people , spanish people, asian people, all admit that there is still a lot of racism and injustice in this country, yet the people who say it's not and that we are being dramatic are almost always a middle aged white guy who is out of touch with reality, such as the Papa John bastard.

It's the same people who want to focus on how someone proteset and not the content of what they are protesting.
If we hold everyone to the same standards of what it takes to be called a racist in the west, then it's easy to see that everyone is racist. The terms homophily and social identity describe the basic ways we function.

I don't agree, it's pretty simple, certain things are clearly racist, and it's easy to see what is and what is not. People often try to murky and muddy the waters on this topic, to enable an excuse to carry on the status quo, not saying you are doing that, just saying generally.

Lol that was pretty clever

I'd like to see you and kneeblock @Kneeblock discuss what you see as solutions to the race divisions in the US. Ive noticed those outside of the US often find our discourse on the subject crazy, if not counterproductive. I'm not sure if it's just different experiences being voiced or if there is a legit under/over focus on one side or the other. I've literally never met anyone outside the US that uses the terms we use to describe various social and race issues. Even when there are parallels in their own society.
