UFC PPV to FP Rumors?

@Rambo John J alerted me to a post on UG

Rumor is fightpass wil become the “UFC Network” in 2019 and will have all of the ppv’s for 19.95/mo, all of the out of market fight nights, all of the out of market contender series and all the other ancillary content (grappling, etc)

Plan is to use big fights with Brock, etc to drive over 1m subscriptions which would be roughly 240m a year in revenue (this year ppv revenue will probably be around 150m to 180m)

UFC makes more stable revenue, fans save a lot of money... everyone wins.

ufc is bleeding the fan base with ppv’s and they can’t seem to create more fans than they burn with the ppv model.

While anything could be true, here are a few things:

• Poster is also the guy that broke the news that UFC was signed to NBC
  
• UFC just signed a huge contract with ESPN+. I cannot imagine they could legally (within contractual rights) build FP like that as competition to ESPN for dollars.
• ESPN is planning on becoming a major conduit to buy the PPV's through (according to all reports)
• His numbers are off. If UFC charges $19.95 per, they will get about $14 of that. Also UFC is a very different entity than WWE. The interest in UFC PPV's vary greatly from month to month, so a large % would not be a subscriber all year around.

What I told Rambo in a PM, is that there is actual talk of UFC hyping the digital aspect of PPV more than traditional cable (since they get a larger cut)
Also ESPN will be a PPV conduit, so that will be hyped on ESPN with coverage (after a media piece they can tag the PPV is on ESPN digital)
A lot of people take talk & try to figure out where it might lead & post it as a "rumor" so if it comes true they get credit

The UG poster is knowledgeable, but like i said when the "UFC is signing to NBC" news broke, most in the industry said that he made that up.
obviously it never occurred.

Could it happen? If ESPN has a piece of FP there is a small chance, but nobody ever said they did.
But we seen small chances occur in the past

I know every MMA consumer is different

I currently pay for fight pass about 3-4 months a year and that is all the $$$ UFC gets from me AKA 40 bucks a year

If it was 19.99/month for all content I would pay and they would get $240 per year from me


If a move like that rumor ever actually came into fruition, then it would get more money out of me....as it sits I will not be getting cable to get ESPN access

I am also aging out of the demographic I believe so I am no longer target audience

If they combine ESPN+ with Fight Pass, I could see a possibility
But if they did that, why wasn't it announced in May?

I am just optimistic that I could get reliable PPV in HD for decent coin...so I want any change from current PPV model to be true

Hell, I miss the days when your PPV buy included 5 main card fights and at least 3-4 of the earlier quick prelim finishes were inserted into the dead air between the 5 main card fights...now they use that space for advertising for other cards, straight advertising of products, or small talk.

Unless they are contracted to (providers) I find that way too much

At approximately $65 a PPV (at least where I am), anyone who buys 4 or more PPV cards a year would come out ahead on this - not only financially, but on the additional value from the additional content. Sounds good to me!
