I never heard of them until I posted one of their videos here where they interviewed John McAfee, and I got slammed for posting "Russian propaganda".

I found a video of John McAfee saying the exact same thing on Larry King's show, but it was too late - by virtue of being broadcast by RT at one time, the info was already null and void apparently! lol smh
How about Sputnik Radio?

I heard about that. The funny this is, it has seemed to me that RT has actually gotten a lot BETTER in terms of shit like delivering credible news and not wearing their bias on their sleeve. I have neither the necessary desire nor the means to do it, but I'd love to see an extensive fact-check of their news for a week and then see how their accuracy stacks up against CNN and Fox.

Though I do know a reporter once famously quit on air because the network refused to criticize Vladamir Putin:

The English language broadcasts of RT have diffused out into the world and are largely a mixed bag. They are a state based news agency, but there is a level of autonomy in the newsroom.

This autonomy is much less apparent in the Russian language broadcasts. There's room for criticism of the regime, but everyone knows the line, much like in China. RT hasn't been a propaganda network strictly, but has had its agenda set by the Kremlin on key issues. According to a Russian journalist I'm sitting right next to at this moment, RT has become considerably more propagandistic in the past 3 years, though it has its utility for getting on the spot information.

About the response I would have expected from you.

The kid who runs around screaming about Libtards and the fake news... only takes a break to post some Russian propaganda.
You ducked out the back door! Gave me the old Irish goodbye lol sad

did she mysteriously die from polonium poisoning?
Ha, no, but she virtually disappeared in terms of having a career.

Last I heard she was a correspondent for Newsy, which I don't many people have heard of at all. I think she was hoping her stunt would garner her some attention, establish her reputation as an ethical journalist, and bring in job offers from more mainstream networks. Didn't happen, though.

Very interesting. Thanks for posting all that.

I remember reading an article once that talked about state censorship of the network. One employee said that it's more like self-censorship. As you said, there's a line when it comes to criticizing the regime and they know where the line is and they just kind of naturally make sure not to cross it, rather than having actual orders come down from the top on what they can and can't report on.

I'm surprised this friend of yours says that RT has become more propagandistic over the last three years, though. It has seemed to be that the opposite is the case and that it has morphed more and more into a mainstream, legitimate news agency in that time.

RT is untrustworthy Russian propaganda...

...but if tomorrow they say "TRUMP COLLUDED WITH RUSSIA", watch every liberal/Democrat in the world say "OMG THE RUSSIANS FINALLY ADMITTED IT! THERE'S OUR PROOF!"

One of the main goals in pushing RT out into the western world was to subvert and divide.

Thread shows they are successful.

Most logical people don’t.

A few ignorant fools attempt to pass it off as a legit source.
Here's how I see it. . .

Don't get all your news from one place. In fact, don't even get all your news from one country. Every media outlet, whether consciously or unconsciously, is going to work to shape the viewer's perspective on the world.

I watch a lot of Fox News, but I also understand that if only watched Fox all the time then my perspective on world events would inevitably be incomplete. It's better to survey the news from a variety of sources, both corporate and independent, national and international.

Yeah I'm rather guilty when it comes to a lot of fact checking from news sources. At one point I think I did (selective bias?) but after finding so many of allegations and claims in the Syria conflict to be utter bullshit, I'm loathe to follow any major news source very much these days.
Yeah, I think the Syrian situation is a clusterfuck.

I wouldn't trust anything RT has to say about Ukraine, Crimea, etc. It will no doubt be skewed, so I just stay away from all of that. But there have been plenty of articles that I've looked at where the information in the RT article was basically the same information in articles from other sources.

Like I was just saying in my last post ITT, to gain an accurate--or at least as accurate as possible--perspective on what is going on around the world, diversity of sources is key. Don't get all your news from the same place, but be sure to use a variety of sources, including a few international outlets.

But I like your post, it's well-balanced and fair...perhaps some things major networks could use more of.
Ha, thanks.

Having taken some journalism classes and done a bit of magazine writing, I have a lot of interest in the news business. I spend a lot of time thinking about it and thinking about whether or not the media's poor reputation is deserved, as well as what steps it could take to reform that reputation.
