For any of you guys like me who used to love the Fast & Furious movies and who was sad to learn that Paul Walker went to live his life a quarter mile at a time in heaven, the Paramount Network is premiering a new documentary about his life on Saturday.

According to a Paramount press release:

“I Am Paul Walker” explores the life and career of the enormously popular actor who won over audiences the world over. The documentary features exclusive family footage and interviews with Walker’s closest network of family and friends, including Fast and Furious franchise costar Tyrese Gibson and director Rob Cohen, Running Scared director Wayne Kramer, both of Walker’s parents, his brothers Cody and Caleb and his sister Ashlie. The film provides an intimate journey through Walker’s childhood on the beaches of sunny California and his rise to action movie superstardom. The documentary also explores Walker’s prolific film career and showcases a side of Walker few knew – from his passion for the world’s oceans and marine life to helping rebuild Haiti after the devastating earthquake and subsequently establishing his disaster relief NGO, Reach Out Worldwide.

looks interesting, I like gun toting hippies

sidenote...the writing of the excerpt is poor IMO

"explores the life and career of the enormously popular actor who won over audiences the world over."

using over that close, and in the same sentence is not very eloquent

Aww shit, that thread looks awesome! I'm going to have to read through the whole thing.

The first movie is still the best in the series, hands down. For a lot of years I was in love with PW's green Eclipse, even to the point of starting the movie sometimes and only watching to the part where his car gets blown up.

I wonder if Fat Burger still has that cheeseburger and fries for $2.95.

LOL. I think the literary qualities of the press release is the last discussion I expected to breakout ITT. . .

. . . but I agree.

Fast and Furious may be the best movie franchise of all time. Because I’m old as shit, i prefer the first one by a wide margin. All the early ones are best (except Tokyo Drift). The Eclipse is one of my favorite movie cars ever. The biggest disappointment to me is that the more popular the series became they got away from their roots and went to Exotics. Average schmucks like me don’t give a fuck about those. Go back to imports and old school Murcian muscle.

Agreed that the first is the best and that they should get back to imports instead of $100,000+ supercars. Oh, and the Eclipse is fucking awesome, yeah!

But I disagree about Tokyo Drift. It's my second favorite entry in the franchise and is constantly underrated by people.

I saw the Supra and the charger at universal studios a few days after I watched the movie at the cinema. That was pretty cool

I love it.

It has some cool cars and, while I still think the first film is the best, Tokyo Drift has the best racing sequences in the entire franchise.

Lucas Black is also an underrated performer whose talents are being sadly wasted on that fucking NCIS spin-off that he's on.

lucas black is probably getting paid a ton of money by ncis, I have seen the NCIS LA crew filming in Long beach and hermosa beach.

I've tried to watch it and I just can't do it. Not only is it just stereotypical bland network television, but Lucas has reduced his acting ability to the level of the material.

I wouldn't mind him doing the show if it didn't mean the death of his film career, but the only movie that he's appeared in since joining NCIS was Furious 7, and that was just a cameo. It's hard for me to believe that he hasn't received a single offer for a substantial film role since 2014, so I can only conclude that the show is getting in the way.

But hey, at least he's working and is successfully maintaining an acting career.

Talked me into it... I will watch Tokyo Drift this weekend. It just so happens I have all of them on DVD. Maybe I'm not giving it enough credit.

Just accept that it's a different, and younger, crew and I think you should be able to have fun with it.

I'll be curious to hear your opinion after a re-watch.

So this premiered last night.

I got confused and thought it was premiering tonight, but I guess I got fucked up on that. It's already available OnDemand for me though so I intend to watch it tonight anyway.

I don’t like to admit it but I like the F&F movies. I’m a bit of a petrol head, so I’m up for watching this.

I really like the first film and Tokyo Drift. Fast Five is also pretty good.

I think I'm going to go see The Meg today and then come home and watch I Am Paul Walker.

When Jason Statham joined the franchise, the world said "why did it take that long?".
I'll wait for The Meg to be free, but I'm really looking forward to it too. Lol.

It's amazing how much the series has changed. The later films are so different from the earlier ones that it's hard to believe that they're even part of the same franchise. If you watch The Fast and the Furious back-to-back with Fate of the Furious the only appropriate response is, WTF?

I think it will be fun. It's the only movie for the rest of the month that I feel like I NEED to see in the theater. Jason Statham battling a giant CGI shark? Fuck it. Sounds like the perfect way to spend my afternoon.

I've loved him since Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, he's made well for himself as a result of that and Snatch. Pure escapism movies since. Take your brain out, stick it on the shelf and just enjoy it.
The Transporter movies and Crank have all been awesome.

Yeah, it's kind of strange how he became known by demonstrating his acting chops in his earlier films--Snatch was the movie where I really noticed him for the first time--and then he went on to mostly just do action movies for the rest of his career. I'd like to see him take more challenging roles, at least every once in a while.
