I guess free speech is only available to the "left" in today's world.Weird, I almost posted a thread about Gab earlier today.
It seems they mostly have a reputation as a platform for the alt-right and that makes me wonder if they will be successful at attracting mainstream users or if it's destined to remain an echo chamber for a narrow group of users and ideas.
Also, apparently Microsoft is contemplating kicking them off their Azure platform and this isn't the first time I've heard of them running into hosting difficulties where those hosting the site weren't as committed to free speech as they were:
Microsoft threatened to stop hosting the alt-right’s favorite social network
Mainstream is 85% of the media reporting 92% negative news on the president.I guess free speech is only available to the "left" in today's world.

Hopefully all the Trumptards go there and stop shitting up Twitter
Yeah, as I was just saying in my last post this is what I think as well. All of the services that are there to prevent erosion of free speech have largely just attracted trolls and Nazis and edgelords...
It's probably good to have a slant towards a Free Speech policy. But if you Market it, it becomes a siren song for malcontents.
The internet is a weird place of extremes.
I just read an interesting couple of articles about how the alt-right has created an "alternative Internet," more or less, including:
Gab (alt-Twitter)
WrongThink (alt-Facebook)
PewTube (alt-YouTube) - this one doesn't seem to be functioning
Voat (alt-Reddit)
Infogalactic (alt-Wikipedia)
. . . and my personal favorite, a dating site of their own: WASP.love (alt-Match.com)
I think a group of sites that are genuinely focused on free speech, and that caters to any viewpoint, might stand some chance of success. I mean, if Gab can say, "Well, we're just like Twitter, but we respect your free speech!" then that could work.
But if the goal is to call these "free speech" platforms but really what they mean are alt-right platforms, then that seems less likely to actually attract enough users to survive and be of use for the masses.
LOL.Wth...
What does "white nationalist" mean, only white'ish skin?
F it, I'm signing up, maybe they can turn me.

Have heard that when something competitive gets big enough to challenge, it promptly gets bought out or compromised.Yeah, as I was just saying in my last post this is what I think as well.
I would think the goal would be to populate the service mostly with regular, run-of-the-mill, mainstream users, but then just have policies in place to protect the right of those on the fringes to express themselves as they wish. As it stands though, I'm not sure I see any of these services attracting many mainstream users (or even really wanting them, it seems).
