With a new flyweight champion being crowned for the first time in the division’s history, there is one thing that cannot be argued: a seismic shift has occurred regarding the who’s who in the division. However, what is almost equally as indisputable is that Demetrious Johnson is deserving of a rematch, or at least as deserving as anyone has ever been in the promotion’s history. Henry Cejudo, however, firmly adopting the “out with the old” ideology, isn’t so sure that’s what’s best for the flyweight division for the time being.

“I would agree when it comes to the statistics side of it,” Cejudo said on the Ariel Helwani MMA Show regarding whether or not Demetrious Johnson deserves a rematch. “But at the same time, I know what the UFC’s trying to create, man. I had to wait two and a half years to face Demetrious Johnson.

Lol had to wait 2 1/2 years because he got his ass handed to him. Wins a close fight and thinks he’s going to hand pick his next opponent?

Just get rid of the flyweight division.

He doesn’t want to lose the title as quickly as he got it......he certainly will not get his way and he will not get a super fight as there is nothing super about him going up as he’s barely the champ now

His next fight at 125 should be DJ
But I think his next fight is at 135 if TJ is down.

I disagree, there is zero interest in that fight unless it’s on the McGregor Khabib card as a fight pass fight - the TJ fight, that is

Edit - so I agree that he needs to fight dj again

Not sure about the mighty duck comments....I ain't a fan of his either but just because someone doesn't move up a division its not ducking.

Anyway... Carry on.

it's amusing the way he won the title, and immediately asks for a super-fight. as if possession of the belt were the only qualifying factor. DJ defended the title at least 5-6 times before any real talk of a super-fight emerged.

I was gonna say that DJ should get a rematch. They have given immediate rematches to people who have done less. However, i like your idea better. Just get rid of the division.

Is there a better fight at 125?
Probably not.

We have these divisions that are so dull and shallow that these types of arguments are made for the same fights over and over. Because there is no better fight. If that needs to be said about a weightclass, then that needs to be rid of.

I agree but that doesn't make him less deserving of an immediate rematch in a division in which he was the only champion ever
To be honest, I reallly don't care about this division. It's shallow and dull, and inconsequential. I'd just figured a new face with the belt may change all that.

as a viewer the immediate rematch is less fun of an option but the question is if MM deserves a rematch and the answer would be yes. the flipside of this coin is WME group era ufc no longer does things a legitimate sport does and doesn't need to give MM a rematch they can just set up Henry in whatever arbitrary match they want for entertainment value of the fans.

I don't have a problem with making MM win a fight before he gets his rematch. There is no reason to rush right back to a rematch.

This is COMPLETELY laughable. He out wrestles a guy who K him TFO a couple of years ago and gets a SPLIT decision win and somehow the former champ - a guy who had NEVER lost at 125lbs. and was on top of the division for 6 years - doesn't deserve an immediate rematch?

I have no respect for Henry.........

This was my thought process but I just couldn’t put it in these words because all of that equals = you rematch or you get nothing and you don’t dictate what happens by narrowly winning a decision
