I read very few articles about MMA
and I tend to throw out any opinions in the articles I do read...I only stick to dates, test results, or quotes...probably because I find all media to be biased and shill based

No idea, but Kevin iole is a fat fuck who is your typical dipshit.....he’s a dork
It’s a shame we have these bozos covering the sport tbh

We need a real reporter who cares about the sport and there are a few I can think of who’ve earned it and deserve it......but I’m not gonna suck MMAHAWK @MMAHAWK ’s dick anymore

Jeez I don't follow a whole lot of MMA journalists, as I find the general level of journalism in MMA to be piss poor. So I wouldn't have any idea.

Can't blame a journalist for playing nice with the UFC though - it's a tough business unless you've established your name like Ariel did.

Ariel played nice until Fox fired him. then he went the opposite direction.
Don't look to him for any integrity

Meltzer, Nash & Ourand are the best.
They report on the real finances & numbers in MMA & don't care about Dana's wrath.
Unlike Ariel, you won't see any of them "cry" if they are not allowed backstage lol

Truthfully I can't respect most MMA media... Matt and Ed are my favorites because not only are they knowledgeable fans, but they are objective and non biased.

I also have a tough time listening to any of the "journalists" who don't train, yet talk about what fighters should have done in fights..... I remember listening to that obese fuck Sean Sheenan talk about what someone should be doing, or Helwani talking about why a fighter didn't do something in a striking exchange, I don't give a fuck what those pussies think someone should do, until I see them get into training and either serve as a primary training partner, or take ammy fights, I'll NEVER respect guys like them (hypercritical and judgemental, yet won't go train themselves).

I mostly just listen to the mma gambling segments/shows on VSIN & few other places & fight breakdowns like Dan Hardy has. These shows actually discuss fights & it cuts out 99% of the riffraff I don't give a shit about

& MMAHAWK @MMAHAWK's show too

Voted Morgan but don't be surprised if you see Okamoto and Ariel jumping up there into a close race with him come first of the year since they're on the ESPN payroll.

Reporting finances isn't journalism.
As a matter of fact, it was THE key aspect in establishing the UFC's dominance/reign amongst the media outlets, and helped crush competition.

^^^This is in case any of you didn't know this fact.
Reporting numbers/polling is a key in maintaining power in any industry.
Meltzer was on the UG/UFC/BJ Penn.com "friendship" ring as much as anyone.
It's why Kirik promoted his articles for over a decade.

It's hard to pick a bigger (known) shill.
Iole took the cake for awhile, primarily just after Pride's acquisition until a year after WME's acquisition, where he's normalized somewhat.
Ariel's not even in the top ten.
He was anti-monopoly until they crushed him, then bought his soul like countless other now-alcoholics.

I think if you've heard the name, they're corrupt.
If they have UFC credentials, they're either corrupt, going to be, or painfully naive.

I don't follow MMA "journalism" anymore for that reason, since the mid 2000's.
If I want refreshers from a purist aspect, I'll listen to Eddie Goldman.
Aside from that I liken it to going to cable television for your world news.

A lot of people see this but rarely give specific reasons. It seems to be a "just cuz" thing that gets repeated over and over.

Why exactly do you find MMA journalism to be poor?

Yeah, people ITT are talking about shills but there's a difference between someone who is cautious when dealing with the UFC to stay on their good side and someone who is literally on the UFC's payroll. I don't think John Morgan gets paid by the UFC to say good things about them.

The problem is that indirectly the UFC controls the media space also so these guys really don't have the freedom to be critical and say what they want to. Maybe it will get better when/if Dana White gets replaced my a more professional president.

I tend to agree, but I don't follow Morgan enough to know.

Junkie is a USA Today property and receives a lot of money from the UFC via advertising. So it's not so much that they're paid to say good things but they have a lot to lose if they were to be controversial at all and ruffle the feathers of the UFC overlords.

I don't go out of my way to intentionally follow him, but I've definitely encountered his work several times over the years.

I know he's also won MMA Journalist of the Year at the World MMA Awards on multiple occasions, and as the lead Junkie reporter, he's done a lot to build MMA Junkie up to what is arguably the best MMA news outlet we have right now.

Yeah. Well even that not withstanding, we've seen how the UFC treats journalists who get on their bad side. Their credentials get yanked, which limits their access and gets in the way of doing their job.

It puts these guys between a rock and a hard place.

I think the opposite. The sport will grow and become more respectable without him at the helm.
I don’t know, but only time will tell.....I see everyone bitching about access to the top brass.....without a big mouth like Dana, bye bye to acces to the corporate brass....you’ll all be sorry
