I wear a short sleeve rash guard under my gi except for the last few classes before a competition. I don’t like wearing long sleeve rash guards under the gi because it lets the sleeves slip up your arms really easily, and it can screw up people’s sleeve grips.

No-gi I almost always wear a long sleeve rash guard and spats. I am very skeptical of the anti microbial claims of some rash guards, so I have never bought one of those. I think you are just as protected by wearing the rashguard and washing it right after training.

I'd like to get some opinions on spats/rash guards. Who wears them regularly to train in? Do you pay the extra for antimicrobial?

Some guys I'm training info with who compete with the gi never wear them to make it closer to tourneys. I just picked up a pair of spats and find it much more comfortable to roll in personally. Plus I'm concerned with gross staph and ring worm, maybe I'm making too big of an issue with this? Our mats are cleaned twice a day but still...

I ordered a second set of spats today and also have a long sleeve on its way so I'm curious to how that'll feel compared to short sleeve.

Any feed back is appreciated.
I have a ton of spats & rash guards. I wear both every time I train, & have since The beginning. Training for 5 years now & ive never had ringworm or staph. As we know, not all who train care about their hygiene. That extra layer makes a huge difference. Plus they look cool as shit. I don’t pay extra for anything. It’s not necessary. You can find inexpensive, durable items listed as running compression gear on Amazon. Also you can find great deals on Bjjhq. Hope this helps.

Long sleeve rashguard, spats and shorts for no gi. When I compete I will take the spats off though so I can slip out of footlocks

I don't like wearing a rashguard under the gi. I like the feeling of having nothing under my gi but I'm also cautious of picking up skin infections so I'll usually just wear a vest top underneath.

My wife just got back from a work thing I LV and brought back some Venom spats, I also ordered spats and long sleeve from nogobjj.ca for under $100 so I'm ok with that. I curious to see how the long sleeve feels

Thanks for the input everyone. I'll give some reviews on how the venoms feels compared to the lesser brand in the mail.

I like short sleeve rash guards, reason being for me the sleeves are usually too long on the XL or XXL. I hate if it bunches by my wrist, I feel like it makes it easier to hold my wrist. But a lot of times, I just wear t-shirts during no gi, and rarely if ever spats (leg locks).

I never wear rash guards under my Gi because... Well IBJJF rules.

19 years and (knock on ALL the wood) I've never ever got ringworm or any skin infection (other than dry feet and callouses from being barefoot on the mats)

I had been thinking about getting an Origin Gi for a while, largely because of their whole made in America commitment. When Jocko partnered with them and they did the Discipline = Freedom gi on Black Friday, it was a clear sign that the time had come.

My DEF gi and rashguard arrived today, and they are great. Very well made, surprisingly light, and fit perfectly. I was skeptical of the Swivelock belt, but it works well and the connector was no issue when training.

I don’t beleive the gi and Swivelock has been approved by the IBJJF yet, so I will be sticking to my usual Gi’s for the Atlanta Open next week. I will likely be getting more Origin Gi’s in the future, I am really impressed with this one.

The special DEF package (gi, rashguard, signed book) was $238. OrigIns comparable gi minus the embroidery, rashguard and book is $178 regular price.

My reviews on a few product lines... It's a trend now, but I can't stop speaking highly enough of Phalanx... Great customer service and great products. I own a rash guard and several t-shirts, they're great. As much publicity as they get now, they're actually still very small as a company. The owner has sent follow up emails (that aren't generic copy paste ones) to inquire about my opinions on their products, and has responded to my responses.
Nice looking stuff but with the exchange and duties a little steep for me.
I'll have to keep an eye out for sales.

La Paix @Chad Wagner you're a fellow Canadian, where you get your gear from?
Any good places in Canada? Or do you surrender to having to pay US dollars?
Forgive my ignorance on the matter, but do you guys have Amazon Prime in Canada? Because you can find cheap high quality stuff on there

They seem to be all the rage lately in the south east, and a bunch of guys I know around Florida are sponsored athletes... But has anyone purchased or knows someone who has purchased an Albino & Preto gi?

We do.
It never occurred to me to check there.
Yeah I got my black Hayabusa gi on there for $90, I grabbed it because it was cheap and I needed another one (I'll burn through a gi in about 3/4 years..... But I also teach/train 6 to 7 days a week, twice a day). I thought it wouldn't be that great and I LOVE it.

Good to know. I guess I just assumed amazon would be liking shopping at Walmart or something for gear.
I don't mind spending a little extra for quality or to give my money to the smaller companies but the Canadian dollar isn't too hot right now so I have to draw a line sometimes.

Thanks for the tip!
