Permanently though?

I'll look it up
The acting attorney general role, the part everyone actually cares about from Sessions recusing himself, is automatic. No Trump input needed. Falls to the solicitor general until...

If he fires him, he doesn't get to replace him. Vacancy, temporary guy, Senate has to confirm replacement.
If Rosenstein resigns, the president picks someone that has already been confirmed...or goes through the Senate as above.

Twitter lawyers suggest he would take the spot, but then recuse himself. Yes, Sessions Recuses to pass to him. And then he recuses to pass to...

That's what I was waiting for. However, look at this mofo:

earning a bachelor's degree summa cum laude from Harvard University in 1996.[1][5] From 1996–1997, Engel was a Knox Fellow at University of Cambridge.[1][6][7] He was awarded a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School in 2000,[1] and then clerked for Judge Alex Kozinski of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, followed by a clerkship for Justice Anthony Kennedy of the Supreme Court of the United States.[1][8][3]

Talk about a serious educational pedigree.

I guess the "failing New York Times" wasn't fake news after all.

Can't have it both ways.

did you read the whole piece?

My synopsis:

If you count the truth revealed about the DNC and Hillary being two-faced globalists when their internal emails were released as "Russian Propaganda and Hacking", then maybe it's more likely than not that "Russian Propaganda" tilted the election to Trump.

They start by lowering the bar, and then group a bunch of factors that most folks don't count as "Russian Propaganda" with actual Russian propaganda in order to get to their foregone conclusion. But the most overwhelmingly damning thing for Hillary was The Truth about the DNC that was revealed in the emails. The truth isn't propaganda.

We should be thanking the Russians. I just wish the Republicans weren't smart enough to use FedGov servers and turn the phishing probes over to the FBI when the Russians tried to hack their emails.

I have to ask how closely you read that article. The items that were classified as Russian interference featured ads that were identified as coming from Russian state sponsored accounts through the House Intelligence Committee inquiries. These were not people's facebook posts or arbitrary tweets. They were actual ads sold in the ad exchange. There is no lowering of the bar. There's a uniform standard. Further, she uses a number of survey results to show decreased faith in not just the candidates, but the democratic process altogether. The research is very rigorous, as you can see if you check out the actual book and some of the papers also sourced in the article. I can vouch for how careful and apolitical the researcher is as I know her work and have met her on a number of occasions.

There is something to be said for possibly owing Russia thanks, but not just for revealing the inner operations of the DNC. Also for unmasking for the public just how structurally flawed Facebook and other services means of extracting information is when it comes to our social cohesion. Many have been yelling this forever, but now it's finally at least somewhat in the public eye.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein Is Heading to the White House Expecting to Be Fired

The Atlantic has called a Rosenstein firing a national emergency.

Am I the only one here a bit tired of watching everything being called a national emergency? Hyperbole loses its impact with repetition.

If you're the deputy attorney general overseeing a controversial case involving the president it might not be a good idea to state, joking or otherwise, that you could wear a wire to get dirt to start his removal. Especially given that the media spun itself in a tizzy suggesting that Trump has dementia at that time, eventually forcing the president to get a mental Fitness evaluation.

Is such a firing unreasonable given that context? I would suggest no for any other president.

If you don't like Trump and you don't want him to be president, don't go overboard.

@Splinty the problem I see is the instability. Forget about guys like Comey and McCabe, Trump can't even hold on to his own hand-picked guys without turning on them or having them turn on him.

Remember, Rosenstein is the same guy who wrote a letter recommending the firing of James Comey.

It makes me think that the confidential leak that Pence someone in the administration wrote is pretty spot-on accurate - chaos in the WH with an impulsive, irrational commander in chief who has to be contained by the people around him, lest he start World War III.

Isn't WW3 what you libs want?
I don't want WW3. I want a rational leader who doesn't react emotionally to things and doesn't have to be contained by the people around him. A guy who doesn't venerate people like Putin and Kim Jong Un because he is impressed by their machismo/afraid they'll release the piss tapes.

Is that too much to ask?

Just pointing out that all presidents hire and fire, it goes with the territory of making sure you have the right people you want around you. Trump is used to this so hiring and firing is not a big deal and just because you give him a new title doesnt mean the man will change which is the point of this whole presidency and I am shocked that people are shocked by Donald Trump as if the man has not been this way since day 1. TRUMP FUCKED A PORN STAR NO WAY!!!!!! TRUMP CHEATED ON HIS WIFE NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TRUMP LIED NOOOOOOOOOOOO WAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY! lol How is that economy doing, oh yeah great.
