Alexander Gustafsson hoped to cap of 2018 by toppling the seemingly unbeatable Jon Jones and capturing the UFC light heavyweight title. Regrettably, things did not go as planned for the fearsome Swede, as he wilted amid a storm of third-round ground-strikes from his foe.

In the wake of this tough loss to Jon Jones, Alexander Gustafsson is now considering a move to the perilous UFC heavyweight division for a fresh start.

“The heavyweight division is also an alternative. I’m here to fight, either if it’s at light heavy or heavy. I have to talk to my coaches and see what’s next.”

Clearly he's never going to be a LHW champion, but I can't see him having much success at HW.

It's the same route many other fighters have taken after consecutive losses in their weight class. And then some of them, like Diego Sanchez, wind up moving up and down repeatedly because they have no clear path to a title anymore.

He should go wherever Jones and Cormier aren't. If Jones and Cormier sign to fight at HW, Gus can slide in and become LHW champ. If they fight at LHW and Cormier retires, I think HW is a good move for him.

It's a great move.
The UFC will continue to employ Jon Jones, so the entire LHW division should either move to Middleweight or Heavyweight.
Gus knows that not only is DC clean, he'll be turning 40 yo this year.
DC & Stipe both looked terrible fighting each other; Stipe being a guy who isn't particularly quick.
Gus has the size for the division and some quickness.
It's the exact career choice I'd advise him to make as long as the UFC continues to ride or die with Jones.

dom Reyes beats him too... he's a younger faster version on the feet.
