I was at the grocery getting the typical week's haul of milk, bread and eggs and spotted a dude delivering cases of liquor. He had a dolly, and at the bottom of the stack was a case Weller . I followed that fucker through the store like a dog begging for some scrap food.

Score!

It's just the regular, but this has been hard to find lately. I tried to buy the whole case but she would only let me purchase one bottle. Haha.

My wife was driving by the store an hour later and I had her run in for another bottle but they were all gone. I guess word got out quick.
Fuck yeah!

I’m out on a whiskey quest right now!

I heard through the grapevine that there may be some good bottles around town...we will see though. I’ve been too late a number of times.

I was hunting Eagle Rare yesterday. I used to be able to find that one pretty easily. Not anymore.

Good luck on your hunt. I found it easier to just make phone calls if I'm looking for a specific bottle. More efficient, too. When I go to a liquor store I always end up browsing the bourbon aisle for an extended period of time. It reminds me of being at Blockbuster in the 90s and trying to decide what movie to rent.

Hah! Eagle Rare was one of the bottles I was looking for today. That and Blanton’s. Struck out on Blanton’s, but I got one bottle of Eagle!

It was a huge pain in the ass, I hate how hard it has become to find some of these bottles.

Fuck yeah to this baby!

Hauler @Hauler

I’ll tag in SuperPig @Willthiswork and BeardOfKnowledge @ConorMcGregorsBeard too

If you haven’t tried E.H. Taylor before, these are both excellent. Especially if you’re a fan of Weller, Eagle Rare, Blanton’s, etc. These fit right in there and have ties to the same distillery from way back when.

*history tidbit*
EH Taylor is one of the distillers that helped push the “Bottled in Bond Act” through legislature in order to bring the quality of whiskey up. Back in the moonshine days there were a lot of issues with quality control, some of which were straight up dangerous.

They have two versions - single barrel and small batch. The single is about $60-$65 and the small batch is about $40-$45. They are very similar in taste, I can only barely tell the difference. So no harm in going with the small batch of you don’t want to spend the extra $20. Excellent bourbon in either bottle.

Plus, these two haven’t been quite as hard to find as some of the others. And they’re are easy to spot at the store in the canister ;)

Anyone else ready for a stoot?

Nicely done.
I happen to be enjoying an Eagle Rare right now while watching some football.

I'm going to give this guy a rattle. I've never heard of it but looking at reviews it sounds like a good whiskey.
Will report further.

I haven’t had that one yet, but I’ve seen it around and wondered how it is. Let me know!

How much was the bottle?
I like that it’s a 10-year, and curious to see if the “spicy vanilla flavors” come through when you taste it. I like those kind of notes/flavors, but holy shit bourbon reviews are subjective. When I buy a good bottle, or something new, I’ll read a few reviews and look it up in my whiskey bible to get an idea of what to expect. Sometimes I agree with what they say, but sometimes I think they’re way off with what notes/flavors.

I just poured a little Eagle Rare....cheers!

It was $50 here so that would put it above makers mark, buffalo trace, Woodford reserve and four roses. Apparently its made by one of wild turkeys distillers

I know what you mean about reviews. I picked up a bottle of Dalmore 12 year scotch which had good reviews but I have no clue where they were getting their note profiles from. It's smoky and slightly sweet but all in all I found it a bit disappointing because it simply tasted too much like a cheap spirit.
Would not recommend maybe their 15 or 18 year are better.

The more bourbon I drink, the more I think scotch is disgusting.

Blanton's runs 70-80 bucks a bottle up here. It takes me a year to drink a 26, so I don't really care, lol.
Blanton’s has definitely gone up over the past several years. Used to get it for $55-60. Now, like you said, it’s ~$75. There’s a small liquor store near my house that has a little stash of Blanton’s in the back room. But this lady wants $125/bottle. I absolutely love my Blanton’s.....but c’mon lady! Out of desperation once (hah) I offered her $90 for a bottle and she declined. Done with that lady...it’s not a good sign when the liquor stores start using black market prices.

Keep in mind, I am in Canada, so the exchange rate plays a factor.

Oh, I think I posted recently in this thread - but give the E.H. Taylor a try sometime. Both the small batch and single barrel are great ($45 vs $65 respectively). Both very close, kind of hard to tell the difference unless you have them side by side (point being no harm in going with the $45 bottle). It’s in the same realm as Blanton’s, eagle rare, weller, etc.

One of the highest rated bourbons I've seen. I'll have to grab a bottle eventually here. Ive only seen it in the $80-$90 range though but I don't really shop around

It’s great, one of my all time favorites. In the past couple years it’s become hard to find around here. So if it’s not ridiculously overpriced, I buy it whenever I see it because I know I might not see it again for a while.

You definitely need to try a bottle.
