I finally have an electric guitar, my first.
I hate practicing on my acoustic because it damages my sensitive fingers.

I want my guitar to sound like Metallica as well as normal.
What do I need?
Do amps have distortion settings?
Do I need a pedal?

I'm shooting for middle class territory; In other words I want to adapt to it, not outgrow it in 6 months
Passive Jay @Passive Jay , anyone? chime in.

It's a Washburn with 4 knobs

I don't play regularly, perhaps every few months. It's a tough acoustic and things get in the way of growth, so I'm still 20yo musically, self-taught etc.
The electric allows me much more playing time to build up callouses but also feel encouraged to jam

Fender champion. It's about $150 has tone and distortion settings so you don't need pedals.
Its a good system for beginner

Fender has a line of amps if you want something worth a bit more

Perfect. You really don't need anything special. It has all th fx settings if you're looking for a certain sound. You can always add pedals to it to try something different. The rig will last forever so money well spent imo.
OK, I'll go get it

I have the fender super champ xd. I love it because i want that fender bluesy tone. It's a great sound but may not be what you want for metal. Perhaps check out the orange dark micro terrors

Life is good my friend. Just bought our first house and daughter number two is due in March. Hope life is treating you well.
Congratulations brother. There are a few members having kids soon though I won’t out them here.

My kids are 10 years apart and we had our daughter at 40 (and though I love her to death, kids at 40 is not something I’d recommend). She’s a cute little hellion and gets away with more than she should because of it. Here’s a pic of her today with my mom.

The doctor told us she’ll be over 6 feet (just like her dad, much to my sons dismay) and I believe it. She’s only a year and a half and is already bigger than kindergarten kids at my sons school. I don’t have a picture with a banana for reference but here’s her with my wife and son.

I hope everything is going awesome with the pregnancy and good luck with getting any rest (and going to band practice) in the foreseeable future.

Get a Marshall half stack.

That way you can just add on to your rig when you make it big

I've been playing Orange for about 5 years now, I will never go back. Even the Amplitude one sounds great, I have used it also. But, there is still nothing like a loud tube amp cranked up.

There is 15 watt Orange heads that sound absolutely incredible and VERY loud that are reasonably priced. I have the Orange Dark Terror for home and it's even loud enough to practice along with a drummer, paired with a small cab.

There is the Orange Tiny Terror also which is very cheap and sounds great for its size. More than loud enough to play at home. I'd recommend it.

I buy all my gear from them. Great company.
Ever bought a guitar off them? I'm getting a Tele. I've already played them so I know I like the feel, but SW's prices are better than what I'm seeing at the local shops. I'm a little apprehensive about having a guitar shipped to my house.
