that is a puzzling attempt. given that fighter resumes are a public record, when you try this sort of thing, someone will be curious to look up the opponent.. revealing a shocking decision.

bellator should not offer an explanation. just book some fighter who is 1-1, have an internal meeting to see what they have learned from this (lol) and try to avoid dumb, dangerous shit in future.

They're trying to pad Valerie Loureda's record so she can fight for the title in her next fight.

The commission of course said no and they're now looking for a replacement.

Taekwondo master Valerie Loureda's MMA debut planned for Bellator 215 (updated)

I'm all for competition to the UFC but Bellator is getting worse than Pride ever was, honestly.
There is no defending this

I'm not saying this as a joke but maybe the 0-12 fighter promised a lot of pre-sold tix?

This is not the response we would get if the UFC did something like this.

The UFC would never do something like this.

Not because they're not slimy enough (they are), but because they would know that the fight would never be sanctioned.
I agree.

My point was that the MMA forums give Bellator free passes on things like this and drug testing, while it would be torch and pitchfork time had the UFC booked a fighter who had a record even half as bad as that.

in fairness to the ufc, there is barely a mathmatic possibility that they would even consider doing stuff like this. so I am showing support for the smaller, up and coming show :)

bellator is some way off challenging for the title, evidently.

FWIW I do remember the UFC being denied by the Swedish MMA commission on a proposed undercard match because the commission seemed the match wasn't "fair" enough based on records/experience of the two combatants.

I quoted you, but I didn't find your post too egregious. I love Bellator and want them to flourish too. I watch nearly every one of their cards, but I just wanted to point out that they get a free pass on stuff like this on social media and forums because of various biases.

As you know, I am not saying the UFC wouldn't do this. If there was a forum post about it, though, you and I both know that it would be 4 pages long by now and the snow in Dana's driveway would have been mentioned multiple times. Haha

Poor bastard

Not from me they don't. But there are definitely a lot of Bellator/Coker apologists on here and on other forums.

It's no secret they force undercard fighters to sell a certain number of tickets to shows lest those fighters' fights be canceled (a common practice on the regional circuit, but Bellator is not a regional promotion).

It honestly seems like they don't know what they're doing when they attempt the shit mentioned in the OP.

Wal Mart is scrutinized for the way they treat their employees, but Target gets a free pass for the same things. If your the industry leader, then you set the example and everything you do is held to a higher standard. Same thing with the UFC and Bellator.

Having said that, this is bullshit and I'm glad the commission called them out on it. On the one hand, I get that this hotel is only 20 and they want her to be a star. But put her in with someone who has a similar record. 0-12 amateur record is like pulling someone out of the crowd to fight her.

They are all about rainbows and lollipops in Sweden though
