After recently receiving news that the UFC wouldn’t be renewing his contract, commentator Jimmy Smith admitted he knew the risk he was taking when he inked a one-year deal with the promotion.

Smith had his first UFC event in January of last year when he was part of the studio panel for team for UFC 220. The veteran commentator went on to do studio work as well as call several events throughout 2018, but when the UFC moved him switched him from calling UFC 230 to UFC Moncton, Smith knew something was up.

“My first inkling was Nov. 3. I was supposed to do [Daniel] Cormier-{Derrick] Lewis, it was supposed to be me, [Jon] Anik, and [Joe] Rogan.” Smith said recently.…

He did take a big risk. Had it pretty well made at Bellator. Was their voice. Not sure if he fits there anymore but Coker should think about hiring him back.

"my contract with Bellator was up and they wanted to kind of renew the one that I had, it’s a long story"

“They were great to work with,” Smith said during his conversation with UFC color man Rogan. “What happened was I had a deal with an option year, and 2018 was an option year. When I was doing the (Bellator 182) show in Verona, N.Y., my boss sat me down and said, ‘We’re not going to renew for 2018. We want a different deal.’

“When your girlfriend comes to you and says, ‘We need to talk.’ It’s never to say, ‘I don’t give you enough blowjobs.’ They never say that. It’s always bad.

“They said, ‘We want to change the deal around,'” he continued. “They did make an honest effort to keep me. They really tried, they just – they didn’t make me an offer that was worth me coming back. That was the deal.”

Yeah Jimmy was saying the problem was the timing of his release. He said he got released
the last couple months of the year and by that time all the promotions have already put their
teams in place for the coming year (2019)

he was good in the ufc, i liked his commentating. he was cheesy in bellator but that was something they forced him to act like imo because he was informative and knowledgeable in the FUC and his post fight interviews were also very good as opposed to the cheese of his post fight interviews in bellaton
