Lagertha is still around.I'm kinda glad Lagertha is finally (kinda) gone. Plus Floki is still around.
I can never forgive them for killing Aethelstan, though
I still dream of Ragnar and Athelstan sitting in the woods, Athelstan teaching Ragnar about England, Christianity, and ththe Anglo-Saxon languageLagertha is still around.
The only major character they really killed off was Ragnar (which they had to for obvious reasons) and Aethelstan obviously had to go because he can't exist without Ragnar.
Rollo is basically out of the picture and Eckbert is dead and the skinny, weird/hot viking queen was killed by Lagertha and the one weird/hot English queen (had sex with or was pissed on by Ragnar) is dead- those were all compelling characters. The new characters are stuck with shit plots.Lagertha is still around.

Stop being a shit head about it.Good response to a legit question.

Think how different history would read if everyone could have read and written.I'm not sure where I am in the show so I figured I'd spoiler this.
I was doing some reading, and most accounts have Halfdan as a son of Ragnar. Some actually believe that Halfdan and Hvitserk are the same person. Hvitserk means "white shirt", so it's possible that wasn't his given name and he was actually Halfdan.
For those that suck at names:
In the show, Hvitserk is the brother that sticks with Ivar.
Halfdan is King Harald's brother. Tatted up face. The one who goes exploring with Bjorn and is eventually killed by King Harald in battle.
There are other accounts that Halfdan is actually the FATHER of King Harald.
Norse history provides some interesting reading.
I think the Viking Age is particularly hard because much of their "history" floated between factual and mythical as if they were one and the same. Their stories are cross-referenced with the historical documents from the more developed countries at that time, and efforts to separate fact from fiction were done via deductive reasoning. This is known as Comparative History.Think how different history would read if everyone could have read and written.
Good point. You're the only person acting like a baby.
But a lot of history from other civilizations floats between those two realms.I think the Viking Age is particularly hard because much of their "history" floated between factual and mythical as if they were one and the same. The issue with comparative history (still better than nothing) is that you get periods, sometimes really long ones, where groups of people just disappear from history for long periods of time. Makes me think of the womb of nations, where some of histories best armies came from, but we know virtually nothing about them.I think the Viking Age is particularly hard because much of their "history" floated between factual and mythical as if they were one and the same. Like, before the first episode.Hirst (the writer of this show) said fuck history a long time ago.
I liked the first 3-4 episodes...might have been the song and setting thoughLike, before the first episode.
I enjoy the whole series, but it's been historically inaccurate from the outset.I liked the first 3-4 episodes...might have been the song and setting though
Oh, got itI enjoy the whole series, but it's been historically inaccurate from the outset.
Most of the characters were real people and most of the stories in the show happened in some capacity. But most of the characters lived at different times, and they play very fast and loose with which people were involved in what stories.Oh, got it
fell off for me somewhere along the line
I do love period pieces and am somewhat uneducated on the history so that didn't really get me...the silly/poor acting is what gets me in shows usually
honestly the most unrealistic part of the whole series is that Athlestan didn't Bang Lagertha when She wanted itMost of the characters were real people and most of the stories in the show happened in some capacity. There were multiple points during the first few seasons where I was very, very sad that the show didn't have nudity.honestly the most unrealistic part of the whole series is that Athlestan didn't Bang Lagertha when She wanted it
was all downhill from there
I heard there was a version with more nudity...not sure about that thoughThere were multiple points during the first few seasons where I was very, very sad that the show didn't have nudity.
