UFC 234 has lost its headliner just hours before the show is set to begin.
UFC President Dana White told ESPN.com’s Brett Okamoto on Saturday (early Sunday morning locally) that middleweight champion Robert Whittaker is out of his scheduled title fight with Kelvin Gastelum after being hospitalized the night before. He was diagnosed with a hernia and was set to undergo surgery.
According to White, Whittaker (20-4 MMA, 11-2 UFC) started to complain of pain in his abdomen late last night and was taken to the hospital. His injury isn’t believed to be related to his weight cut.
