The big news on Friday night from the UFC was confirmation that featherweight champion Max Holloway will move up to lightweight to challenge Dustin Poirier for the interim title in the UFC 236 main event. For fans wondering why Tony Ferguson isn’t involved despite being the #1 contender, it appears as if Ferguson had no interest in being in another interim championship.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was told by UFC president Dana White that it was actually Ferguson who was offered the fight against Holloway, but turned it down. This may fall in line with a recent tweet from Ferguson which seemed to imply he wasn’t happy with the financial terms of the matchup.

I don't blame Tony. He's already won the interim title, so why do it again. Makes no sense, but nothing the UFC is doing recently does really.

I guess he doesn't wanna get fucked and have another bullshit title stripped from him, but it makes zero sense to turn the fight down. Khabib isn't fighting anytime soon.

He’s going to get passed by the winner of this fight, the winner of Conor/Cowboy (if true). He just fucked himself.

He will eventually go on an awkward and cringe filled rant soon.

I am on his side yet
Ask him why he wears his sunglasses indoors?

I think he'd mop the floor with Holloway. Poirier is a tricky one, he's shown he can be average but also shown he can intelligently cultivate what comes naturally to others.

Not the smartest move imo. Barring any surprise injuries, hes effectively put at least two matches in front of him and the belt.

Wrong move in my opinion. We all know how vindictive Egg is when you get
on his shit side and turn down whatever fight he has for you. Despite how shitty
the deal is for you there are even more severe consequences

If Tony had fought for and won (aka defended!!!) his Interim Title, he could have demanded to have one of those little diamonds be put in there, like with the official new belts, no ?
