We still haven’t seen his takedown defense and how well he works off his back...

You know as soon as Jon takes 1 good hit he’s going to clinch up and try to get that takedown and rain down some HellBows.

Jones can only be beat by someone his size or someone that is fast enough to beat him to the punch. The latter would take a serious high level striker to do it over and over, disrupting Jones' pace.

At 205 his length has always been a challenge, but his last fights have shown him using it better than ever. He smartly makes space with kicks and threatens strikes just for setups to clinches and takedowns.

Jones fight IQ has always been pretty good, but lately it seems completely in the groove. There isn't a slow start to a rhythm like some fighters shaking off jitters and getting into a game plan. There's a true feeling out from the opening bell and you see the plan evolving inside of minutes. Not a warm up, but probing for holes right away.

I can’t disagree with this assessment at all. I just think if someone actually takes it to him, really aggressive and not get caught in that striking range, he will have some trouble. Someone powerful like Thiago Santos can maybe get in that dirty boxing range and tag him good.

LHW has been rather stagnant for a while but I think with guys like Thiago, Walker, Reyes etc it’s starting to look up. Hopefully someone will have an answer for the JBJ riddle because at this point it’s no longer fun making fun of him for failed tests or rooting for him to win, it’s now more fun rooting for someone to figure it out and beat JBJ.

You are severely underestimating the power of Jones' ability to control distance...

It is not that people are not being agressive enough or quick enough to get inside. It may look like that but every fighter who is great at it (and Jones is truly great at this) just makes it impossible for people to get into striking range and punishes those who foolishly come rushing in...

Jones looked shit last night, and he couldnt finish smith. After this disappointing performance @conor mcgregor nut hugger is now rooting for Walker:cool:
Jones looked fine last night. Unfortunately no one can finish every fight.

Anthony Smith is a tough motherfucker who has no quit in him. He was able to hang on (and not do much else) for the last 4 rounds.

Johnny Walker has three professional losses, including an 18-second KO the last time he lost:

He's not on JBJ's level but neither is anyone else. I'm fine with with him fighting Jon but he hasn't earned it yet.

He needs 2 more fights before facing Jones. If there is someone who can beat Jones than its him bc of his creative striking. Jones looked fast but Jones not finishing Smith was just not like him.

I’m not underestimating that at all but his ability to shut down the offense of his opponents relies heavily on keeping his distance and throwing those front/side/oblique kicks. He also does a helluva job wrenching arms and locking down in the clinch. He rolls his body so well that distance shots don’t land well on him either but DC had great luck with being first in the clinch with those nasty upper cuts and changing it up by getting some in over the top so he does have holes in an otherwise great skill set.

With that said I think someone like Santos may be able to land something devastating in a transition or as Jones tried to get into a clinch. May not be likely but I’m having more fun thinking of how these folks can figure him out rather than thinking about how good Jones is.

the way walker loaded and aimed that knee was amazing
rare to see that level of timing and inevitable power

seen a few fights like that but never a 205 huge guy fight like that

He is so athletic he can hit a 7 high foot knee...I watched a bunch of times in training footage...and he times it very well

Electric Striker

gotta have ground skills vs Jon Pico....JP is all grabby and mean on the mat

With his 76" reach, Thiago is getying tooled like Smith probably. DC's great wrestling and, interestingly enough imo, his comparative shortness got him inside. That's why I always felt he was a HW. His skillset negates his height disadvantage.

It's been a while since I've watched their first fight, but if memory serves if DC had come out in the first fight the way he did in the second JBJ probably would've been dethroned long ago.
