I need to paint the exterior of my house and get new gutters installed. I had a new roof put on about a year ago, and while that was going on I replaced some siding and rebuilt my chimney (there was water damage from a bad flashing at the roofline). Had planned on getting it painted so it would look good with the new roof, but life threw me a curveball and I had to have back surgery. Worked my ass off getting everything prepped and the chimney rebuilt, and then I only had about 15 feet of my hose painted when my back failed me. 15 feet lol.

So it’s been like that for about a year. As soon as the spring weather gets here I’m going to get the house painted, new gutters, and new front and back doors.

The wife told me she’d buy me a pellet smoker if I get those things done. That’s all the motivation I need!

There is also another very expensive piece of medical equipment from Austria. Only 8 in the country. A cable broke on it. They wanted $800 for just a cable and another $120 to ship it. I said the hell with that. I figured out a way to repair the cable. The camera on the end is about 1.25" wide. I had to get double walled adhesive heat shrink that would fit over the camera and seal the cable after repair so I needed it to shrink down to 4:1. Ebay was my friend for less than $10 and the repair was perfect.

Been waiting for it to warm up here so I can get after some projects that I want to do at the new house. Moved in last May, and focused all of our time and money throughout summer, fall, and winter rehabbing the inside. Now we can focus on the outside.

Going to build a deck across the back of the house and add landscaping & walk way around the screened in patio. Add a screen door to walk out of the patio into the deck.

Something like this.

Built this fire pit in the fall.

Been clearing the woods behind the house (you can see above how overgrown it was & below how I’ve cleared a ton of it out to where you can walk around back there). Going to build another smaller fire pit back in there, add a picnic table and a couple hammocks.

Also going to add black lava rock in all of the front landscaping. It’s currently black mulch and pretty old and thin. The dog gets in it and drags the shit in the house on her feet. Did the first load last week when we had a day in the 50’s. Have 6 more loads to go. Bushes are pretty overgrown as well, so I’ll be trimming those way back & probably removing some to make space for some new stuff w/ color.

Going to start on the basement tomorrow. Already built my daughter a bedroom down there. Now my wife wants to build a bar area. Going to repaint all of the walls and baseboards well. Will take me a couple of weeks to get this one done.

What it looked like when we moved in. That wall with all of the pictures is where I’m going to install lower cabinets, countertops, and the entire wall will be barnwood with some shelves.

What it looks like now after building the bedroom (behind door w/ wreath).

I’ll try to post some updated pics as i finish this stuff.

What projects do you all have planned? Hauler @Hauler - I know you have something in the works.
Nicely done, dude. You've been busy. Looks great.

I don't have any major projects planned. They just sort of happen for me. Once the weather gets warm I'm sure my brain will get turning. The wife wants me to build a log cabin on our property but she has no clue how much work that is. I've started scoping out pine trees and I don't think there is enough lumber up there to do it. Maybe I'll just get a wood mizer and make good use of the dead ash trees that are still standing.

If I get into anything interesting I'll post it up here.

A log cabin??? Fuck, I thought you’d say you were going to replace a dishwasher, or build a window box or some shit. I wasn’t expecting “yeah, the ole lady wants me to build a log cabin on our property”. Thats a huge undertaking dude. Foundation, plumbing, electrical, sewer or septic...then the actual cabin. What would be the plan for it once it’s done?

No plumbing. No electric.
Foundation would be limestone. She does want a fireplace in it for warmth so that would take some figuring.

It would just be a place to get warm in during the winter, or to sleep in for people who don't have tents. I'd have to do all the work on site though with no electric - it's in the middle of about 150 acres with zero amenities.

I'm buried in my graduate thesis, but if all goes well I'll be done mid-April.

Then I'm building a gaming PC for RDR2 and putting the engine/trans in the Duster.

Lmao, I know the feeling. Ours was a fucking trainwreck for months after we moved in. Basically a 20 x 30 storage unit. Finally got 90% of the junk moved out and installed some shelves. Hope to get those patio chairs out of there once the deck is built. Then finally, maybe, my wife will be able to park in there & STFU.

What all do you have in your garage? Easy to accumulate a ton of shit over the years, isn’t it.
So easy to accumulate shit! I'm so ashamed of how it looks I won't even let my brother see it. No shit! If he comes over to borrow a tool I make him wait while I go get it. When I open the door to get something I immediately close it so the neighbors don't judge me. I used to always have a clean garage and enjoyed working on cars and shit. Even had an extra room in the back of the garage that had enough stuff I could have charged memberships. Those were the days. Long story short, we moved two times in a year and had a personal tragedy. I'm not the same person and don't give enough of a fuck to clean out the garage anymore.

Maybe you could use it as an opportunity for therapy and relaxation. That's what I do man. I deal with anxiety, so I try to keep myself busy with home projects, work, TMMAC, etc. Keeps my mind busy on productive shit. All of those projects in my original post are examples.

Hope it works out homie. I threw a TON of shit away when we moved last year. As we were packing, I found myself saying "where the fuck did we get this?" over and over again.

That has always been my coping mechanism too. I have to stay busy or I go crazy. Too many triggers in the garage though. At least for now. Maybe one of these days.

I really don't understand how the shit piles up so fast either. I know for a fact there is shit out there I haven't used in 5 years. I need to just order a dumpster and have someone else go throw it all away. That might be the move!

:tearsofjoy:

If you have that much junk, having a 10 or 20 yard dumpster dropped off is definitely the move. Either that or have a huge yard sale and try to make some money off of it.
One persons junk can become another persons junk. Win win.

Seriously though when I get overwhelmed with what seems like a million steps I force myself to start with one small thing. I realize while I am actually doing it, it was all in my head. Doing it is actually easy and rewarding. The key and hardest part is to pull the trigger and start. You can make piles at first. Stuff to keep and find a home for, stuff to toss and stuff to sell. Once you start you will be glad you did.

We just bought a new apartment with a balcony. Renovations start in a week. Being as 1) Our building requires we use a licensed contractor, and 2) Even if it didn't, I'm nowhere near manly enough to do major renovations, this is not a project I'm doing with my own hands.

But, I am manly enough to plant pretty flowers and herbs on the balcony. So that will be my Spring/Summer project for 2019.

No major projects, but I’m waiting for it to warm up so I can wash the outside of the house. The mold has been really bad on the north side of all the houses in my hood. Also need to clean and organize my garage. I might also cut down a fucking out of control ornamental cherry tree that I hate.

Stained the deck last summer, so I'm good there. Maybe dig a trench to improve the drainage in the back yard. Otherwise a lot of grass mowing.
