Many fans believe Cody Garbrandt gets too emotional when he steps into the cage, which is why the former UFC bantamweight champion was unable to stick to any kind of tactical gameplan in his last three bouts.

According to former Team Alpha Male (TAM) head coach Justin Buchholz, however, who trained Garbrandt for the Dominick Cruz fight, poor coaching is to blame for ‘No Love’s’ recent three-fight skid.

“They make a situation that is kind of simple, way too simple,” Buchholz said on Wednesday’s edition of The TSN MMA Show. “They’re like, ‘Oh, he decided to throw caution to the wind.’ Well where was that guy, where was the guy who threw caution to the wind,…

If Cody wants to salvage his career (and I still feel that he has top level skills) he needs to find a new camp. Don't make a dramatic exit, don't over publicize it, just take time off, book a fight in a year, and come back with another camp.

AKA, MMA Lab, Power MMA (Ryan Bader's team), NDA, any of those would be a great fit on the west coast for him IMO. (I don't think Jackson/Wink team is a good fit).

Matt Hume could do incredible things with Cody but I’m not sure if he takes people on or just works with DJ.

Tristar would be good too.

You could be right. I’d like to see if getting away from the bro scene might persuade him to concentrate on more important techniques than his stand and bang.

Who is this Justine Buckholz chick?
Any camp who can get a simpleton like Cody to the top 3 in the world should be praised as top tier gym. When you're at the pinnicle of the division, it's often a coin toss who wins. He's been unlucky but it's ludicrous to start shitting on all the coaches of number 2 and 3 fighters because they're not number 1 in the world. And when you've been fired by that gym you're shitting on, you just come across as such a whiney, little bitch.

Not sure the Firaz / Tristar Love ...they had GSP and Rory ...that’s it ..and GSP’s success can be credited to Jimmy Cournoyer.

Honestly, I hope Cody stays and everything is copacetic at TAM.

But that's probably because I just want to see Cody keep getting KO'd until he has to retire and go work at a tire store in central Cali.......

Is anyone really surprised that a training center called Team Alpha Male has had a lot of disputes about who is really in charge??????

I just watched the film Rampage starting Faber in a minor role. To have read that script and thought it was a good opportunity suggests his ego left the barn long ago.

Cody is just a Mental Midget...
I don’t believe that’s true. Even with all the pressure and the built up animosity he looked incredible against Dom.

I think that losing the title, especially to TJ, fucked up his confidence. The hate for Dillashaw at his camp compounded by all the internal issues they have been going through, can not create a conducive atmosphere for him to learn from his mistakes and move on.

In my opinion a new camp and some psychological coaching would be the best thing he could do at this point.

What does Cody having a good fight with Dom have to do with him being a raging retard?

I agree he acts like a douche but calling him a ‘mental midget’ insinuates that he is weak willed and lacks intellect. In my opinion, the way he controlled himself and the methodical nature of his fight with Dom proves that is not the case.

Agreed about a new camp + psychological coaching but he talked so much crap about hating TJ for just wanting to train part time at a different camp (MP in Colorado) while still training at Team Alpha Male that he can't change camps with a straight face. Dom was his best win but has now lost 3 in a row and in the last one lost cuz he basically went full-retard in regards to fight IQ. He's almost 30 so he's not getting any younger so hopefully he matures at some point...
