Super corny and spammy of me, but go over and give it a follow, share, whatever. I just wanna build up some hype around the "Bobber Ann" build. I'll be posting as she comes along. With work hours plus being able to ride so much in Louisiana, it may be slow... but I've got some serious plans for this little beast. Already have exhaust, intake, and a tune in. Going to focus on some cosmetic shit I want and then beef it up to 1300cc with a big bore kit by winter. Also looking for a shop with a good cam profile for these engines.

With the mechanical skill you posses i have to say that I’m disappointed you didn’t built your own bike.

I would love that, but it would take over a year with my schedule.
I understand but you could make the whole bike your own.

Also, you’re lying to yourself if you think the upgrades on this will take less than a year.

Yea, but that would require a lot of fabrication that I literally would have no time for. I can still make this my own and enjoy having the Indian name as well.

That’s cool. It’s awesome you know your limits. I’m glad you found a ride that you like and want to modify.

I’ve had a lot of bikes and have always wanted to build my own so I’m pretty certain I’m just projecting my desires onto you.

I would love to if I readily had everything available in my home garage and some more time in the week.

That’s great b00ts @b00ts . Are you a member over at the indian forums? I just cammed my chieftain yesterday and it’s running great with a tune I got from Craig over there on my pvcx. Nice bike btw.

My son is 11 now and I’ve been seriously considering getting a Honda ruckus and moding it over the next few years so he’ll have a cool (and slow) ride for the summer he turns 16.

Examples:

The issue is that, a) he doesn’t seem that interested in working on mechanical things and I don’t want to force him, b) it will not be cheap at all (with tools, parts and donor scooter at least 7-10 k) and c) a Honda grom is under 4 grand and looks fun as fuck and the Kawasaki z125 is 2999.

I’m not trying to hijack your thread here but I know that being a dad you’ll understand my feelings on the subject.

I want to have the experience of building something with my boy. Not only because I want to do it, but because I want him to learn the beauty in mechanicals and the feeling you get when you’ve done something yourself. But I don’t want to push him to do something he doesn’t want to just because I do.

I find that good parenting is a conundrum filled with emotional consequences no matter what you choose.

Anyway, I promise not to interrupt your thread again.

I am. You will see me post in the Scout section every now and then or if anyone needs any help on anything general. Craig is pretty knowledgeable

I’d say the Grom. I see a lot of younger guys on them in the city.

My son helps me any time I’m tinkering with vehicles or engines. I explain everything I’m doing and how things works, but he’s 6 so I don’t know if he actually retains anything lol. I passed by his room the other day and he was watching a YouTube video on internal combustion engines, so maybe he is learning some.

My YouTube history is filled with machining, lathe, welding and blacksmithing videos. I have done very little of any of them but I’m intensely interested in all of them. My son, not so much.

Next year he is going to a junior high with required vocational classes that range from smal engine repair to sewing. When we went to the open house he was really interested in the machine shops so I hope that this will jumpstart his interest.

Though, I took home economics and cooking in school (when I told this to the teaching staff of the sewing and cooking programs they were visibly surprised about it) and they have served me well throughout my life. Women are not always impressed by your ability to build an engine but they love it when you can cook them an amazing meal and fix their clothes on the fly (especially when they do not expect it because you look like an evil biker). So if that’s what he wants I will support him completely.

I’m sure hoping he goes for the mechanics though.

It’s honestly a skill that’s being lost with the younger generations. The schools mostly focus on the general troubleshooting aspect and there’s a ton of networking and electronics troubleshooting. We rarely have any younger guys that end up making the big money with us because of this. If the diag computer doesn’t tell them exactly what’s wrong, they’re completely lost and end up hours deep into a simple issue with no clue what’s happening.

I’ve always loved engines. I’m where I am now because my career is also my hobby. If I don’t know something, I’ll spend hours of my off time researching it. I think I’m going to do like my dad and buy my son a beat up ass vehicle and tell him it’s his if he can get it running.

Onetrickpony @Onetrickpony Something you can think about doing that I do with my son... If we have free time on the weekend between soccer and baseball, I bring in my 4Runner and put a bug somewhere. I give him the complaint and walk through with him on how to troubleshoot and repair it. I usually just do common issues to keep it simple. Last week I took the plastic cap off a new battery and cut it to where it was small. I then put it over the negative battery terminal and put the cable clamp over it. I had him come out and diagnose a no start. He thought it was cool because he got to test it the old way with a voltmeter and then I showed him how we do it now with a starting/charging test using my diag computer.

My son is 15 and I try to teach him but he seems to have no interest. He's a straight A STEM student so in the long run I think he will be fine. We did have a couple very slow leaks in a tire. I got the floor jack out and I'm pretty good but I missed them. He found them. He was quite proud of himself.

Cracked the fuel line fitting from the tank by mistake and called the local Polaris, since it’s a common fuel line on Polaris machines, and they can’t get one for about a week or two. Ordered it, but put my little solder kit to use and welded the plastic together with heat shrink. Holds like a champ.
