Again these are instances of "political elites" quelling the general populace. As you say, the people most oppose to the people having hold of their power are the same ones imploring them to do "the responsible thing".

and if you disparage Ol' TR we're going to have problems.
Lol we can save TR for another thread, but I have lots of thoughts. I think the thing is we live in republics for the most part. Direct democracy is useful sometimes, less useful in others. Agreed that it's elites usually driving the wheel no matter whether it's stoking/harnessing popular discontent or nullifying it.

Only America, brother.

We've been doing that unsuccessfully for six thousand years. Maybe we should revisit the idea that the peasants can't be trusted to drive the wheel.

How do people who claim to want "common sense gun control" vote against that?

Pi Roman pointed out that Rose was one of 20 or so Democrats who had joined Republicans in voting to allow ICE to be notified if an illegal immigrant tried to purchase a firearm.

I think both of you hit the nail on the head. The media has basically been casting her in that role and she is more or less playing it. The reason media both left and right is cramming her down everyone's throat is to put her into an antithetical relationship with Trump. They've both meant to be avatars of antiestablishment challenges to their respective parties and we're all falling for it. The other thing they share is they're probably the most personally adept at using social media of any politicians we've ever seen in the US. Notice that a great deal of coverage is devoted to what either of them say on Twitter (or often IG in AOC's case). These interactions are frequently spun off into whole news stories and both of them know the value of maintaining high visibility. Both do have actual institutions or movements of their own that they represent, but these are often obscured behind the cult of personality that's being manufactured on their behalf allowing them to appear to be iconoclasts. It's the left and right hand of populism and based on how things are going around the world (see what's happening right now in Ukraine, The Philippines, Brazil, Italy, etc), this brand of politics may be here to stay.
So what you’re saying is, i am wise

Is she for real?
She likes to make hypothetical scenarios and get people to agree to them.

AOC: "So, hypothetically speaking, if I take this kitchen knife and stab my neighbor in the back while he is mowing his lawn, I could kill him? Is that a fact?"

Dumbfounded person talking to her: "Well, yeah."

AOC: "And if I was really good about cleaning up my mess and disposing of all the evidence, without video evidence or an eye witness I could get away with my crime. Is that also true?"

Dumbfounded person talking to her: "Well, yeah."

AOC: "So you agree that if we had 24 hour video surveilance covering every square inch of American land from multiple angles, it would be much more difficult for me to get away with my crime?

Dumbfounded person talking to her: "Well, yeah."

AOC: "I forfeit the rest of my time. I think we all see that I've made my point here."

When I asked if she's for real I meant more in the sense that I thought everyone in the world knew that contracts are full of litigious clauses. I can't believe an elected official would bother to even ask such a stupid question.

Everyone does know. "Read the fine print" and all that.

But she likes to act like she is breaking new ground with all her revelations.

She's the annoying person in board meetings making obvious statements just so she can hear her own voice. "We need to be more efficient. Let's not lose sight of that."

I've known people like her.
I hated them all with the heat of a thousand suns.

I've popped a blood vessel in my eye because someone just like AOC pissed me off so much in a meeting. The inside of my mouth was bleeding because I was literally biting my lip to keep from cussing her out.

People like her drive me fucking nuts.

Please see post 310.
I saw it after I posted.

You are doing what's called the "is/ought fallacy" - she knows that contracts are full of litigious clauses. That's the point. She is getting people to state what 'is' with the clear intention of making the audience think that it 'ought not' to be. Hauler pointed out the potential (he's wrong in this case) problems with her line of questioning, but the issue is not that she doesn't understand what she is doing. Nor was her line of questioning actually disingenuous or fallacious as Hauler is trying to claim, it's perfectly reasonable.

I'm not trying to claim it.
I am claiming it.

If people can't read a fucking contract, that's their fault.

If she wants to fix something, she should speak out about Rider Bills. There's plenty of crooked shit in politics. Prove you can keep your own house clean before you criticize other people's messes.

So it's your stated opinion that when people sign contracts they have no idea what might lurk in the paperwork before them and it's only because of her revelation that people will realize it's immoral?

Heard a great line from Billions that applies here. Women don’t like sexual panhandlers.
