this is a really dark aspect of fighting, would be nice to see it stop imo

see how Roy knocks Schaub out, completely fucked, no threat to anyone. Roy rushes over to land an unnecessary shot before the ref can stop him.

i get that adrenaline exists. but isn't it odd that good sportsmen/women are able to control themselves just fine..

anyway, interested to see any results of the poll. if you would be so kind as to share your thoughts

I do agree that a lot of them are unnecessary and dangerous, but I think it is too grey to govern in a lot of situations.

I see what you're saying.. but I can tellyou first hand I've knocked a guy out and woke him up elbowing him and ended up losing the fight in the 3rd in a controversial stoppage with less than 10 seconds left.. It's not over till that ref stops you.. this game is 2 unpredictable..Kongo vs Berry comes to mind as well.

Sportsmanship is not required, that's why it has value.
You are doing yourself a disservice by not continuing to attack a fallen opponent, it could just be a knockdown, or a flash KO the guy wakes up from a few seconds later.
If you honorably pull back, it's great, but all it does is help the other guy and potentially sour your chances of winning the fight, more money from a win bonus, and a stumble block loss your fighting career may never recover from.
Sportsmanship is special because not everybody has it.

the hit on Schaub was fine, it was basically a slap at Brendan to show the ref he wasn't defending himself.

The egregious acts of poor sportsmanship are already illegal.

it's up to the fighter.

If fighterA KO's fighterB and fighterA for sure knows that fighterB is out cold...

if he walks away, probably a good person
if he commences to throw more punches, probably a fuckin asshole

If fighterA has no clue if fighterB is out cold, then I don't see anything wrong with throwing few more punches til the ref stops

I would bet that most fighters and refs would agree that the fighter's job is to fight until the ref stops it. It is a mutually dependent situation.

Great example. Example for the other side is Henderson v Bisping. There was no excuse for that and from a fan standpoint i lost all respect for Henderson at that point. Just my .02

There are times when guys should walk away but don't (see Stephens-Emerson), but yeah it's not black and white.

Sometimes a guy is clearly out, sometimes he's not unconscious but clearly unable to continue (e.g. Frank Mir vs Mark Hunt, with Mir later admitting that he was done after that punch from Hunto), and sometimes the winning fighter has too much momentum going forward or simply not the best angle to see if his opponent is finished.

hell no it's unacceptable! look at the stevens ko of that guy he illegally kneed while down. the elbows at the end were not needed .
Being that you didn't address anything I actually said, I am just going to make a bunch of fart noises until you walk away.

OP do you want to try a different example? Roy vs Schaub I didn't see any issue with.

This has come from the notion that you don't stop until the ref pulls you off ...

Now the refs have a hard job and are now responsible for fighter safety.
