A U.S. women’s soccer captain has dedicated years of her life to the national team, but that doesn’t mean she takes pride in the current state of her country.
Megan Rapinoe told Yahoo! Sports that she will “probably never sing the national anthem again” in a glowing profile published Monday that described Rapinoe as an “American hero.”
“I’ll probably never put my hand over my heart,” Rapinoe said. “I’ll probably never sing the national anthem again.”
She also repeatedly disparages President Donald Trump and referred to her anthem protests as a “good ‘F you'” to the president of the country she represents. She also called him “sexist,” “misogynistic,” “small-minded,” “racist” and “not a good person.”
Rapinoe made waves in 2016 when she knelt in solidarity with former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who began the same trend in the NFL.

I guess I just don’t understand why Rapinoe is still donning the jersey of a country she expresses such disdain for. I’m sure there are plenty of other countries that would be ecstatic to welcome such a talented player into their ranks.
Rapinoe’s insults toward America are not edgy or a form of productive activism but simply demeaning to the people that live here and love it here. If Rapinoe feels differently, she’s free to move, but her decision to use her position to disparage her home country on an international stage is a disgrace.
