Yes, to the third question and that answers the other two. It's also easier to find and less expensive. The cost difference isn't exactly enough to put me in ruins but it matters when it's something you use a lot of.
interesting
I love me some salt...might try some kosher flake salt

I actually put a dash of the himalayan salt in all of my drinking water...electrolytes and minerals and shit...plus it tastes good to me

You should keep in mind that pink salt generally isn't iodized. So the important shit that you get out of salt isn't usually in there.

Raw Himalayan Salt has Iodine in it, along with other naturally occurring minerals
Iodizing is the process of adding the Iodine back into the salt after it has been stripped of its minerals in a bleaching process.

"Himalayan contains 84 trace minerals and electrolytes. Some of these minerals include calcium, iodine, potassium, magnesium and iron. In fact, Himalayan salt contains triple the amount of potassium, per serving, than Maldon or Celtic sea salt".

The Himalayan that I/we buy and consume is described as Kosher

Kosher Salt by Wiki definition is "Kosher salt or kitchen salt[1] is coarse edible salt without common additives such as iodine. Used in cooking and not at the table, it consists mainly of sodium chloride and may include anticaking agents."

Make of it what you will...I am sticking with raw pink salt I think

Although pink Himalayan salt may naturally contain some iodine, it most likely contains less iodine than iodized salt.
Pink Himalayan salt: Does it have any health benefits?

Do you guys like burnt ends? I don't think I ever had them before. A new BBQ place just opened. I ordered some pulled pork and burnt ends.

I hear ya...Iodized can be important for those lacking it in their diet...Kosher salt doesn't mean Iodized, it refers only to the size of crystals

I think we are posting salt wars articles and links LOL...Salt is big business...certainly we could find articles to support many different viewpoints and claims regarding different salts

Raw over bleached for me...to each their own...my bloodwork is perfecto

iodine deficiency sounds quite unhealthy, wouldn't wish that on anyone

Flakes do seem like fun, I don't think Raw comes in flake though

Yeah, bro. Big Salt at it again, lol.

In all seriousness. The context I was discussing is seasoning while cooking. When you're prepping meat it goes kosher salt > Pink salt > table salt. Pink salt is one of those things being passed off as the "Raw/Natural alternative" meanwhile there's little or no benefit. I say this as I sit next to my magical salt lamp that will cure all that ails you.

I wasn't claiming it had any benefits other than high mineral content, and that I like it in my water for electolytes

the "Big Salt" comment is just silly...any big business/market will have articles and claims supporting or discrediting certain aspects of the product...I am not talking conspiracy I am talking marketing/business 101...I only mean that we can find pro and con articles for Iodized salt, Himalayan salt, and many other types of Salt(I have found articles countering each other in my simple searches and readings the last 5 minutes)

PS I have a lamp also...not thinking it does anything other than work as a good nighttime light for the kitchen area...to me it doesn't get hot enough to release a damn thing like it is advertised to do

lol that is exactly what I thought you were doing
you attempted to educate me on Iodization...

I only was informing you that most of the important shit^^^ is actually in raw salt. Whether enough Iodine is in it, is up for debate.

make no mistake it was purely an educational experience and exchange from my perspective, I learned some and am still learning

you keep saying kosher > Pink...Pink can be Kosher, what I buy is Kosher sized Pink salt...you might not have your definitions in order

Nice bark/color. How did you do them?
Removed the membrane, added rib rub to both sides and let them sit for about 30 minutes. Then put them in the smoker at 225 deg F for 2 hours. Then took them out and wrapped them in foil with a little margarine, brown sugar and honey on the meat side. Back in the smoker for another 2 hours. Then took them out of the foil, added BBQ sauce, and put them back on the smoker for 15-20 minutes for the sauce the caramelize. Took them out and let them sit for about 15 min before slicing.

I sleep next to one
I'm gonna lick it tonight to reap some of the benefits and live up to 100 years old.
Yes
I might also rub it vigorously against my dick for other health benefits but that's another story.

Cool
I'm a big BBQ fan.
I removed the membrane too. Made the rub myself last night and put it on the ribs.
A fresh rub makes a big difference. The ribs become very flavorful.
I let the ribs marinate in the fridge overnight.
In the morning I lit the bbq and cook the ribs at low heat for 4-5 hours.
I don't use foil. I used to before but didnt find it made much difference. I find the ribs well cooked enough with my bbq.
I use a kamado bbq and it does a great job at smoking meat.

very happy you pointed that out...I got a refresher course on salt, and learned some new info also
I know people low in Iodine so the info was pertinent and valuable

Yep I licked it just to be sure... is it salt? I thought....
Yep. LOL
shit hits the fan and I am taking that salt block/rock and some guns off into the hills to live off the land
break off a lil chunk and trade it for a woman or some ammo or something...grid goes down and salt value skyrockets
we are sitting on potentially very valuable lamps fellas

That is on my wish list.
If you love bbq its a great investment.
I've had mine for the last 10 years.
I recommend Kamado Joe.
It works just great.
It's a great design.
Ive smoked ribs in super cold Montreal winters and it did a great job.

Nice. Been watching Malcom Reed's "How To BBQ Right" channel on YouTube and he makes some amazing dishes on his. I hope I can afford to get one...maybe next year.
