UFC champions Jon Jones and Israel Adesanya have been going at it via social media for the past months. “The Last Stylebender” doubled down on his criticisms for Jones after his UFC 236 win in April, which were a little more personal.

During Monday’s episode of the Ariel Helwani MMA Show, Jones first clarified that he really has nothing against Adesanya.

“I think the worse thing I’ve ever said about him is that he looked really promising and I would assume that people would be entertaining that fight soon and he’d come up to challenge me,” Jones said. “That’s all I said about him. I think he said about killing on G.O.A.T in Anderson Silva, and now trying to kill me or some…

He is a few picograms short of being able to compete against large LHWs
Way too small for light heavy, Kelvin is a beast but he is a former WW, lumped Israel up.

Skill levels are low enough at LHW now though, he might be able to win a few, Jones would mop the floor with him though.

Always nice to pick on a guy in a Lower weight class when you won't move up in weight to fight your actual challenges. How about he moves down a weight class and calls izzy out? Hmmm, because he has a hard time making 205. Not the way a goat should talk. I've seen more class on a wadded up piece of toilet paper wiping away violent diarrhea than this guy has ever shown.

No shit talking that I am aware of. He stated he beat the goat amd was hunting the next goat. The goat he beat was not the goat at the time, far from it. He may be after that status, but he has yet to conquer he own division. He is early in his fighter development, so of course Jon wants to fight him now. Jon wants the easiest fights possible. Business decision i can agree with. I see both sides, but he didn't call out Jon in any way or form.

I actually feel like Adesanya is the one to beat Jones, but he'd need a few years to get ready. He's around Jones' height, though he's still got a 5 inch reach disadvantage. With a few more difficult fights and some skills development, I feel like he might have the best chance. At this point no one else does, so he's as probable as anyone.

His only real test so far was Gastelum who who would get beat at LHW by the top guys. Kelvin landed lots of clean shots and had IA working his ass off to stay in that fight. Guys like Rockhold, Romero and Whittaker are far more probable against Jones than IA. Maybe in five years if he can keep improving and Jon actually shows some form of weakness due to high milage or age he'd have a chance. Until then he isn't a threat at all. Jon would walk him down and blast him against the cage with strikes and finish him with ease. If he wanted an easy night a quick take down and mauling.

I agree with all this, but I don't feel like we can judge Adesanya by how he is now. He's very good, but hasn't quite peaked. He's 17 fights into his career, but he's only realistically faced three tough fighters. Also, Kelvin gets no respect, but is a tough fight for anyone. He clobbered Bisping and Belfort, went to war with Jacare, and gave Weidman some trouble. If Israel can get past Whittaker, we'll know more about what he's capable of. He needs a few more years of wrestling and grappling training to get there, but he's got the attributes and the timing to at least give Jones a credible challenge. Also, who knows what a Jones a few years removed from PEDs might eventually look like.

Fair points. To be clear I wasn't trying to discredit Kelvin as an opponent at all. Just pointing out that once strong competitors come into at he can't fight like a video game character.

Good call on how Jon will perform if and when the PEDs aren't there or as effective.
