The governments put it in to ensure stability in the respective economies. You know who put that in there and why. Its not for the people.

Its not countries suing other countries, its corporations suing countries for decisions like changing taxes, environmental standards, consumer protection etc. Some of those are normal, but 20 additional years after CETA is dead, and in international backroom courts controlled by god knows who?The governments put it in to ensure stability in the respective economies.
So it's your opinion that the governments are negotiating a deal that protects big corporations so that down the road the same corporations will be able to take out lawsuits against them? You realize how utterly insane that logic sounds, right? Its not countries suing other countries, its corporations suing countries for decisions like changing taxes, environmental standards, consumer protection etc. Some of those are normal, but 20 additional years after CETA is dead, and in international backroom courts controlled by god knows who?
Who does that help but big corporations? Certainly not the little guy that got laid off. You think he will get a big check 18 years later?
You can say stability, but you can also say it ensnares the countries not to act as freely in their normal democratic process, economic and domestic policies, when you have those things looming in the background.
If you guys decide to start a project favouring the change to electric cars, and VW and every other German car manufacturer decides to sue the shit out of you for it, will you be happy? In the end its your tax payers money.
Stability or stagnation? A win for you, your democracy, or the corporation?
That's not what I'm saying. It's a big deal with a lot of provisions and a lot of angles for lobbyists to work their magic. You wanna say they have no influence? So it's your opinion that the governments are negotiating a deal that protects big corporations so that down the road the same corporations will be able to take out lawsuits against them? Is it a crazy notion to think big tobacco might pay certain politicians $10million to pass certain bills so they can later sue the tax payers for $10 billion? So it's your opinion that the governments are negotiating a deal that protects big corporations so that down the road the same corporations will be able to take out lawsuits against them? Not at all. A government negotiating provisions in order to facilitate it is though. Is it a crazy notion to think big tobacco might pay certain politicians $10million to pass certain bills so they can later sue the tax payers for $10 billion?
FixedNot at all. An honest government negotiating provisions in order to facilitate it is though.
If you're operating under the assumption that the world's governments are invariably out to get us, what bother to care at all? If we believe governments fuck things up because they're inept (which history shows to be reasonably accurate) there's hope for things to be fixed. If we believe governments fuck things up because they're out to get us we might as well just give up now.Fixed
I don't think they're "out to get us" so much as that they're just corrupt and it's corporations that pull the strings so the government often acts against the peoples interest. I feel it's the exact opposite of give up time, but rather revolt time. However Trump scrapping the TPP is the first glimmer of hope that maybe there is now a president who will stand up for the people. Only time will tell.If you're operating under the assumption that the world's governments are invariably out to get us, what bother to care at all? Americans legalized bribery and now believe every politician is corrupt. Well, duh.
