Just by the way he carries himself, it’s easy to brand UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker as one of the nicest guys in MMA. But apparently, it’s something that “Bobby Knuckles” isn’t too fond of.

During a recent interview with Submission Radio, Whittaker took some time to clear up the reputation that seemingly precedes him.

Let me clear something up quickly, just because I don’t talk trash and I’m not mouthy and I’m not mouthing off like I’m in the school yard, doesn’t mean I don’t take this for what it is,” he said. “I am doing everything in my power to break you, because we are going to go fight in an Octagon. And I…

His analysis of today's mma with regard to people preferring to shit on others is fairly accurate imo.

Yeah, I just never understood what makes him so 'nice'. He's just a reserved, legit tough guy who is not a complete cunt.

I think the saying 'it's the quiet ones you've got to watch out for' is mostly true everywhere and perhaps even moreso for Aussies and Kiwis (of which Whittaker is kind of both).

Just as being really homophobic ultimately makes everyone think you're gay (this is why I'm always marching in the Pride parade - to fool everyone into thinking I'm not gay), so can trying to act tough all the time make everyone think you're a pussy. I think Australians and Kiwis have a very slightly greater understanding of this than some other places.

You look at the difference between Whittaker vs say Conor and Bisping as Irish and UK examples, Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz as hispanic-American examples and someone like Mike Perry or any dude covered head to toe in tattoos as white American examples - people who grew up dirt poor and are legit tough guys but carry themselves very differently.

The common thread among the non-Whittaker types is the need to overtly project and defend some a form of hyper-masculinity. And I think culture plays a part here.

He’s lying. One time I was broken down on the highway and he pulled over and fixed my truck with his bare hands and a rag.

In MMA any normal man who does not act like a loudmouth asshole, attention whore, short fused violent thug, volatile, sociopath, or straight out liar & cheater, simply stands out like
a woman in MMA who has normal athletic proportions a face that looks female stands out like a beauty model.

He's got a death stare when he wants. Always a good interview IMO and has pretty intelligent things to say. His personality is excellently balanced. I love that he doesn't feel the need to script up a bunch of bullshit or act out a role of scary tough guy. That's what I like about Askren too when it comes to shit-talking. You're already going to get in there and fight---is trash talk really going to scare the other guy?

Bobby falls in the same category as Fedor, Anderson, DJ, GSP, and others who are badasses but just humble as fuck. None of those guys are angels, they beat the shit out of people for living.

Askren talks endless shit. It's not the nose to nose bumping and shoving but he runs his mouth more than most. You must have seen this in his boom roasted vids and the entire lead up to the Masvidal fight. He even admitted he probably deserved it (the flying knee ko).

“I feel like I probably deserve it,” Askren said. “I’ve been antagonizing people for almost a decade now, and it never came up on the end of the stick. Now, I’m not reading everything they’re antagonizing me with. I’m just scrolling through it. I don’t want to dwell on that. But fair enough. I always figured that when this point happened, I’d get lit up. I’m not paying attention to it, but I’m sure I’m getting lit up.”

When asked by Ariel if he's change his antagonist ways his comment was basically no.
