Don't you worry about wiping out on corners if you hit sand, loose shit, etc? Or you spot that stuff in advance? Not climbing, no way. I mean I'm going down a hill (road) but it's my pedaling that's getting my speed up. I could coast around 50kph or whatever but I crank my ass off and see what speeds I can get.
This is from a ride last week. My max of 75 is on a different route and I had a different bike at the time.
Fastest I can see going back through my DH is 66kph. I'll do my best to beat that this weekend.
I looked it up on youtube but a bunch of Sam Pilgrim videos came up.He has an English and Polish channel.
Im very aware of the danger but I love that feeling. On my road bike I basically disregard the idea of crashing unless I'm going pretty quick with traffic close to me. On my MTN bike it's on my mind but it's not so much fear as it is a heightened sense of awareness and I feel like I can ride better, in "the zone" if you will. I actually get the most freaked out doing high speeds on my snowboard. I'm not sure why.Don't you worry about wiping out on corners if you hit sand, loose shit, etc? I did that before I had come off the rear brake once... and holy fuck did I lose a lot of skin on that.
Yeah, snow is a lot more forgiving...but hell, maybe you're dodging pine trees.Im very aware of the danger but I love that feeling. Sounds like you had a serious shoulder injury which may have made you more cautious. I've been relatively major injury free since my early 20s so maybe I'm a little ignorant lol.Yeah, snow is a lot more forgiving...but hell, maybe you're dodging pine trees.
Those speeds are foreign territory for me friend and I don't foresee my getting a visa to those lands anytime soon.
This is his English channel but there are probably links to his Polish channel. He does some good stuff.I looked it up on youtube but a bunch of Sam Pilgrim videos came up.

That’s impressive. Since my 20s I’ve had a number of serious injuries that put me on the shelf for a bit. Nice work lolI've been relatively major injury free since my early 20s so maybe I'm a little ignorant lol.
Good do hear some of us are still getting out. I've only been on about 8 good rides myself this year. I've been on my road bike much more so still having fun. Lifts around here close in a week or two then it's all person power to get up.Heading back to Spider Mountain tomorrow.
Time for a DH day! Will probably get about 15 runs in tomorrow if we use the chairlift all day. We may climb up the fire road a couple times just because though
Going to be a fast paced trail day, hope I’m on point and don’t eat shit lol. There are a couple sketch spots, but lots of places to get air. Had some close calls last time trying to huck the jumps. As they day goes on and you hit some of them a few times, you start to get comfortable. And then I tend to get too comfortable eventually haha
Hope y’all are getting some biking in!
@BirdWatcher you should be in biking season now, yeah?
@blank are you still on your hiatus while traveling?
@Onetrickpony when was the last time you dusted your bike off?
Dang, that’s sooner than I would’ve thought the lifts would shut down. My perception of seasons is off though after so many years in Texas. It’s been hot AF here, I’m ready for Fall and Winter weather where it’s a lot more pleasant to be out. We’re going to get scorched tomorrow. It’ll be 100 and full sun most of the day.Good do hear some of us are still getting out. I've only been on about 8 good rides myself this year. Ha, just got back in the saddle yesterday. One of the multiuse trails en route to the single track.Heading back to Spider Mountain tomorrow.

How far north are the Appalachians from you (driving time)? It’s cool to see a “cycling” thread here! We have no mountains in Florida so we stuck with gravel and road bikes. I love riding in general and can’t wait for it to cool down enough to get some road miles in. Anyway, continue on with MTB stuff. I’ll just sit here planning our next trip to where there are mountains to actual ride down lol
A number of hours. At least 3-4 to get somewhere with real mountains. We have a few spots near us that have hills we can ride our roads bikes on but other than that Florida is pretty flat! How far north are the Appalachians from you (driving time)?
3-4 is a fair bit when one considers: packing, prep, unloading, setting off, and then biking enough to make the trip worth it. You'd have to start driving at 4 am to get anywhere by 8 just so you could ride enough to be able to get home before 6.A number of hours. At least 3-4 to get somewhere with real mountains.
