These three guys are to me the best at mixing martial arts. All three have solid kickboxing offense and defense, takedowns and takedown defense, and are excellent in the clinch. They've also shown good transitional grappling skills and have submitted high level guys.
What's most notable about these 3 is how seamlessly they transition between ranges and truly mix martial arts. Of them, I feel DJ is best at this and GSP is probably #2 with Jones as 2a. Both Jones and GSP have sometimes fallen in love with their striking at times when they should've been doing something else.
Fedor is another one that comes to mind, but I think these three are just a cut above in that they rely on power less and have had more well rounded competition. Still, he'd probably be #3 tied with DC on my list. Prime Anderson and Aldo also come to mind, but realistically they were just great strikers who could credibly grapple, but rarely chose to, and had total mastery of timing and distance for awhile.
In terms of just technical ability, how do you rank DJ, Georges and JJ? This isn't about who's GOAT for achievements, but more just about the excellence of execution of the actual art of MMA. Bret Hart ineligible.
