Thiago Santos’ coach “Tata” Duarte is expecting a better performance from Jon Jones in their rematch, which he wants for March 2020.

Among all of Jon Jones’ challengers, Thiago Santos was the one who came closest to dethroning the champion. “Marreta” fell short on the judges’ scorecards, losing a split decision verdict at UFC 239 in July.

With the belief he’d won rounds 1, 2, and 5, Santos has since been calling for a rematch. And if it does happen, his coach “Tata” Duarte is expecting a way better performance from “Bones.”

“Jon Jones will fight in the end of the year, and he will probably win,” Duarte told MMA Fighting. “I don’t see anyone in the division giving Jon Jones any difficulties other than Thiago. (Jones) saw what happened (against…

fuck that. most people would be limping for life after what happened to his knees! I saw him walking unassisted on Instagram (I don't post there goddammit; Instagram, wtf is going on in this world) it was about 3 weeks ago. no fuck in way he would ready to start full training in January.

let's bear in mind, Jones is an extremely skilful low kicker and a vicious amoral bastard, so he will prioritise the idea of kneecapping him permanently.

late June at the earliest. amazing marreta can resume his career at all.

Jones take down in the first followed by vicious gnp. I hope to see a good fight but i really think he does the same thing to santos that he did to Gus in their second outing

An ACL generally puts football players out for a year. He didn't just do an ACL, he wrecked his PCL, MCL and meniscus too.

They have a relatively quick fix for ACL, called LARS surgery where they put a synthetic ligament in, but it has a horrible track record. I'm sure Santos can find a dodgy Brazilian doctor to recommend anything. But any doctor not telling him to take the time to rehab the knee properly is a shit doctor.

IMO that takedown and Gus's lack of defense had a lot to do with his groin injury...which he suffered on Jones Illegal Groin assault in the first minutes of the fight.

Gus footwork and mobility was not even close to what he normally employs.

Not that Jones couldn't take Santos down and GNP...Just saying that Gus fight ended with a far from healthy groined Gus.

Interesting, did not know he had a groon injury. Looked off from the beginning of the fight

It was injured within first minute or so
Ref stopped fight for low blow

That is what he says...He wasn't really making excuses, gave Jon credit for the W

I could imagine a groin injury would be a death sentence to any wrestling skills you have. Didn't Jones kick Santos in the nuts too? is this the new "accidental eye poke", guy is never gonna live that down lol

Alexander Gustafsson Suffered Groin Injury in Loss to Jon Jones at UFC 232 | MMAnytt.com
"Jones landed a knee strike to the groin 40 seconds into the opening round and Gustafsson almost immediately waved off any extra time allowed to him due to the unintentional low blow, which in hindsight, may not have been in his best interest."

‘The Mauler’ underwent an MRI on New Year’s Eve to assess the extent of the injury, and according to a text message his agent Nina Wennerström sent to Swedish site Sportbladet, Gustafsson will need time to heal more than a damaged ego following his loss on Saturday night.

“There’s bleeding in his groin, although nothing is broken. He’ll need to rest for a couple of weeks before being able to start [training] again,” Wennerstrom said in the message."

“He just made sure I couldn’t move anymore, that was it. He took me down, and I couldn’t get up, and that was it,” Gustafsson said about the end of the fight."

I dunno if it was on purpose but it did the trick, he seems to have no problem employing dirty tactics and techniques.

I think he's the type to justify anything to himself including cheating - plenty of people out there take the saying "whatever it takes" literally.
