A bike, no, I dont think that is worth jailing someone.

A wedding ring, potentially. In Canada, we up the punishment once the value hits $5,000. Theft under 5k and theft over 5k are two separate charges.
I guess my point is you can determine what is a jail able offense. In California I believe they raised theft to 10k
But using 75k a yearly cost to is a weak argument in my mind. Cause basically anything under 75k ain’t worth 75k. I mean if someone burns your 60k bmw should we just buy you a new one since it’s not worth 75?

Burning someones car is a much more serious crime (charges) than theft under $5000.

But yes I understand the point you are trying to make. I think more than just the value of the crime needs to be considered when sentencing someone to jail.

But is it worth spending 75k a year to lock someone up?
For arson and vandalism? I would think so. One would also have to take other considerations into factor, such as, a criminal history and the impact of each avenue of punishment on the offender.

I think it’s all about values. Moral values.

It seems America has lost a sense of values.

I truly hope America comes back. But I doubt it.

The world is greedy. OR more pertinent leaders of countries are greedy.

I don’t see a sea change in my friends. It’s sad really.

There is a saying you get the leaders you deserve but I’m not sure that’s pertinent these days.

We are being manipulated.

I said in 2000 capitalism will be dead by the end of the century.

I still believe this. It has already failed and we are existing in its husk.

Fair enough
You mentioned stealing a kids bike
What about stealing an adults bike that’s needed to get to work?
Or stealing your wife’s wedding ring?
Are those worth 75k a year?
You are completely clueless.
