My son has recently been "showboating" after he wins. (Teenager, wrestling). I don't like it at all. His coach says nothing.

Do any of you do this?

How about the coaches here, do any of your students do it? And do you say anything to them?

Anyone feel free to respond.

He won a tournament Saturday and did a quick Conor McGregor walk. :(

The kid he beat got mad and left, refused to even stay for his second place medal.

I do not. I find it very distasteful.
Me, too!

And I'll admit that I enjoy it when some fighters do it. But I am disgusted watching my child do that. I've tried to talk to him but it apparently didn't help. I guess that's why I wanted his coach to say something. It may mean more coming from him.

I get celebrating after a hard fought match, or if you win a HUGE event celebrating... But showboating would get my team crushed by me. I've taught them from day 1, win or lose, shake the hand of your opponent, their coach, and the official, and bow walking on and off the mats..... Pray for them if they don't.

Also being mother of a boy, although less experienced than you for sure, coach and/or dad are the best way to go at this point. Coach is best because he should address it as a team issue.

If they don't cooperate then you should think about next steps, but I would try talking to them discreetly first.

How would you feel about a parent approaching you (as a coach) on something like this? Would you be like "stay in your lane, mom"?

I want to ask his coach his thoughts on it, but I don't want to be 'helicopter mom'.

He needs humbled by a great wrestler then helped up to see what humility is..A good tech fall loss should do the trick.. his coaches also aren't doing their jobs letting him act up.

I agree.

I'm going to talk to him one more time although I don't know what I can say different. I've already addressed it being disrespectful, bad sportsmanship, etc. And if it happens again I'm going to talk to the coach.

His Dad didn't seem to have a problem with it. He said he was just "pumped up" Grrrrr

Most top wrestlers don't showboat. Even after a pin or tech fall, they quickly shake hands and sprint off the mat like they always knew they were going to win.

Very distasteful and in most bjj comps you would probably get disqualified for showboating after a win. Same in judo Im guessing.

my dad was a sportsmanship Nazi.
when you win, you should "Act like you've been here before and you're coming back real soon"

the risk is that he's going to get that next step up in competition, and he'll be on the receiving end of someone else's victory celebration.
kids like that storm off and don't even stay to get their 2nd place trophy...

He has always been very graceful in losing, even when a kid cheated last year he didn't complain.

He hasn't done it in the last couple of tournaments. I hope that's over.
